Steelers (http://www.espn.com/nfl/team/_/name/pit/pittsburgh-steelers) wide receiver Martavis Bryant (http://www.espn.com/nfl/player/_/id/16886/martavis-bryant) says he took an "intentional" late hit from Indianapolis Colts (http://www.espn.com/nfl/team/_/name/ind/indianapolis-colts) safety Matthias Farley (http://www.espn.com/nfl/player/_/id/2579840/matthias-farley) while on the ground during Saturday's 19-15 loss (http://www.espn.com/nfl/game?gameId=400951268)....

Bryant referenced a screen play early in the second quarter that resulted in a gang tackle. Cornerback Vontae Davis (http://www.espn.com/nfl/player/_/id/12424/vontae-davis) brought Bryant down by his right ankle, and with his left knee down, Farley flew in for an upper-body hit....

"I was already on the ground. It is what it is," Bryant said. "My foot was already bent. ... [Farley] just came in and hit me."

Replays showed Bryant getting bent backward on the play, but he got up on his own.

Agree with Bryant - that play was a disaster waiting to happen starting with the play call - I was afraid Bryant was going to tear up a knee

What constitutes an illegal hit that gets called remains fairly random

Yeah, that should have been a penalty.

Preseason football has many of the same 'issues' as high school football. So many players at different ability levels on the same play. And such a wide range of ability level. So easy for injuries to happen. This is the OTHER reason starters don't usually see much action in the preseason. Probably not malicious intent, just trying to make a play to get noticed by the coaches, or another team.

It was such a bad playcall by Haley.I hate the screen on 3rd down and long.

I don't get this when it comes to preseason. Maybe Haley wanted to see how well Bryant can gain tough yards, so he called the play? In preseason, you only lose if you don't get to see what you came into the game wanting to see. The scoreboard, and in many cases, down and distance doesn't matter. Third and six? But you want to see how a young back can get short yardage when necessary? Trot him out there with heavy package. Who cares if you get the first down. You're only looking to see if he can get the first two or three yards in that scenario.

It takes a genius to have your deep threat run a screen on 3rd and long

It was designed to fool the Colts just like when they send Ben out to punt or Sammy Coates to catch the ball.

Colts (http://www.espn.com/nfl/team/_/name/ind/indianapolis-colts) safety Matthias Farley (http://www.espn.com/nfl/player/_/id/2579840/matthias-farley) said he was not trying to intentionally hurt Pittsburgh Steelers (http://www.espn.com/nfl/team/_/name/pit/pittsburgh-steelers) wide receiver Martavis Bryant (http://www.espn.com/nfl/player/_/id/16886/martavis-bryant), as the receiver suggested, in the first half of Saturday's game between the two teams....

The Colts are trying to be a more aggressive defense without crossing the line this season.
"You play from snap to whistle," Farley said.

Posting mainly since the ESPN story has this video link (could not embed) that shows Bryant's season could have ended on this play
