Yep - when a NFL player has 2 drug suspensions and sits out preseason when playing under the franchise tag after turning down a contract offer that his agent recommended he accept, it cannot be disputed that the NFL team's front office is solely to blame for any image problems

The team wants him to show up for practice; man, they've got a lot of nerve.
Bell is simply doing what we would all do - throw a tantrum over something that is a foregone conclusion under league rules. He doesn't look like a 4-year-old at all. The fans don't know what the fans want - Mike Florio does, and by gosh, if we don't agree with him, it's because we're some kind of messed-up ignorant fools, right?

Bell is trying to be the tail that wags the dog. If he plays well and is humble after hoisting a SB MVP trophy, all will be forgotten. If he continues to have an attitude I don't think the fans will care whether he stays or goes in 2 years.

Well Bell did not get the money wanted so, he is going to wait till the last minute to report to camp. The Steelers offered him a good contract from what I heard. It cracks me up the Freeman from ATL got over 8 mil a year which is the highest paid RB in the NFL and, Bell turned down over 12 mil per year. I know it is all about the guarantee money!

For Bell being in football shape that should be around week three against Chicago

He'll be feeling the lack of football shape the next day after game 1, no doubt about that.

Let's see.
Team offers RB most lucrative RB Contract out there...by a lot.
Team repeatedly says they want him in camp.
Players say they want him in camp.
Said Player has had some of his own issues in the past.
Yes. Teams fault.

For whatever reason Pouncey backed up Bell on staying out
"People catch feelings about certain things. I think anybody in his situation would do the same exact thing. I would. ...
Trust me, L. Bell wants to be here. He wants to be a football player, he wants to be the best running back in the NFL. At the same time, it's business. ... The fans don't [understand]. But we do."

If players could choose whether or not they went to training camp and played in the preseason - they would universally choose not too - unless they were competing to make the 53 man roster.
Bell's contract situation gives him that choice. And he shockingly chose to dip out on camp and the preseason. Why is anyone surprised and confused by this?
I remember when the media was savvier about this stuff. Vet players used to "holdout" over some contract issue or another - and the media would be like "dude just doesn't want to be in camp - once they get past two a days and move back to the facility - he'll come in.". Now the media is all "OMG! WTF?" -- think the difference is that too many people who report on the NFL don't know diddly poo about the NFL.
