Yet again no mention of Mike Munchak.

thats a good thing ... let him slip in and do his magic without a ton of notoriety and with any luck he will fade from teams memories like some other former head coaches ( many who have not worked in years ) that where good coaches ..

Marty Shottenheimer , George Seifert are a couple who quickly come to mind .... they did great work for many years and fell off the radar

sure both are real old now ( hell Seifert may even be dead for all I know ) but once he got fired in San Fran he seemingly vanished ...

Marty last year in San Diego he won 13 or 14 games and got fired ....

Marty Shottenheimer has not been a coach after he was fired by the Chargers, since he was too old.No doubt, Marty would have found a job easily if he was younger, since he had only 2 losing seasons in 20 years with 3 franchise they were mediocre for most of the time without him since 30-40 years.

Marty is also the most unlucky coach in NFL History in the playoffs, but that's another story.

The 2001 season for George Seifert with the Panthers is the reason why Seifert has not had another job, he was also old, but I don't think he's dead right now.

Guys....your on the internet, Seifert is still alive and 77 years old. Look the stuff up before you start wondering if they are still alive. ( not you PB ).

didnt care enough to look it up as whether or not he is still alive 20+ years later is irreverent just the fact he was a coach at a high level for a pretty good span and has since been forgotten being the point

Marty last year in San Diego he won 13 or 14 games and got fired ....

Bingo!!! It's the difference between the Chargers and the Steelers...

The Chargers amass the MOST talented roster in the NFL. Due to Marlon McCree's incompetence in 2006 and Rivers & LT both being injured for the AFCCG in 2007, the Chargers are booted from the playoffs. (The epitome of bad luck.) Meanwhile, AJ Smith is simultaneously trying to take ALL of the credit for the roster while blaming Schottenheimer exclusively for those two losses.

Schottenheimer is ousted.

AJ's ego drives away all of that talent (which somehow he can no longer replace).

And... as always, the Chargers organization turns into a dumpster fire.

Conversely, the Steelers hire Munchack. Their drafts from 2010 on have been stellar. Munchack credits Colbert for giving him the most talent he's ever had to work with. Colbert credits Munchack for being a phenomenal coach. Tomlin wears cool shades and plays poker. Simply, no one is fighting for credit or trying to throw anyone else under the bus (except for Arians, which is exactly why he was shown the door).

The difference is obvious.

he fell off the entire leagues radar hence why he never got another job or even interview ....

look the man had a .648 winning percentage in 12 years of head coaching last year 2001 and he was not " OLD" then at 61 ...

not sure why you want to act like you are in this thread though , have known you a long time as a poster here and other forums and all the sudden you change ...

whatever dude have a nice life

This.

The drafts of the chargers were so bad for A.J Smith after Marty was fired.Marty was the reason why the Chargers were talented and very tough.

He was a very unlucky coach too.

A.J Smith killed the chargers afterwards, with his ego, the hiring of Norv Turner, the several holdout and several bad draft.

to put that in context Bill Cowher has had " back up the Brinks truck offers" after 15 years of coaching and a .623 career winning percentage

It wasn't that people forgot about Siefert, it is that he went 8-8, then 7-9, and finally 1-15 as the head coach and GM of the Panthers. His selection of Chris Wienke and subsequent disastrous season behind the totally overmatched rookie QB destroyed his reputation as an defensive guru and GM. In a what have you done for me lately league, the answer on Siefert became "not enough" and he got fired and forgotten.

Siefert's biggest problem was that he never really got out from under the shadow of Bill Walsh.

Can we put this to bed now? Sheesh.
