Not really - they had just come off a very intense 2-OT game and there have been a couple of other games the Pens have "taken off" over the course of the playoffs so far. I have a feeling they will play much better tonight.

Even a broken clock is right twice a day - and the NBC commentators agreed the officiating was awful for both teams
But FWIW just a wild guess that if you have been married to a NHL player since 2010 you might learn a bit about the game :chuckle:

What a job that Mike Sullivan has done since he is the HC of the Penguins.
Especially this year with the several injuries than the penguins have had and they are 2 wins away to become the first team since 1998 to win back to back stanley cup.

Not quite sure how to define awful here... I think they let a lot of physical play go which probably led to things escalating. More penalties "could" have been called though, but I think they let 'em play for the most part... because hockey. Everything that was called, was a penalty. Only one against Malkin for hooking was incorrect... and that gave them a 5 on 3 with the Kunitz crosscheck earlier in the play.
Nashville is playing a physical game. Pounding the forecheck and bodying anyone given the chance. Crosby most of all. I have no issue with that, but you can't let it get out of hand. Otherwise, they will keep testing the limits based on non-calls. Sticks to the face, punch/elbow to the head, crosschecking a player... especially when already on his knees (which Subban could have gotten an embellishment), plowing a guy in front just trying to get position when the puck is nowhere near... these are all penalties that were legitimately called, imo.

Talking about the inconsistency for both no calls and dubious called penalties
This from Joe Starkey in the P-G today
The officiating again was atrocious and again featured the rare “daily double” minor call — two minors whistled nearly simultaneously, resulting in a two-minute five-on-three. This time the Predators were the beneficiaries. One of those penalties was a terrible Chris Kunitz crosscheck to P.K. Subban’s head (instrument of crime: hockey stick), the other a phantom hooking call on Evgeni Malkin. Both came after a bad case of Matt-on-Matt crime: Matt Irwin’s brutal hit from behind on Matt Cullen that went uncalled.

National media is all over Sidney Crosby playing basketball with Subban's head (which I enjoyed - Subban has been playing on the edge all series) and throwing the water bottle. Crosby seems to be regarded outside of Pittsburgh the same way Brady is outside of New England (best players in their sports and winners but also whiners and shady).
Hopefully Pens close it out Sunday - game 7 is always a crapshoot and Pens having won 2 of those during these playoffs I do not want a third - an overtime game 7 like Ottawa would be almost unbearable to watch

And FWIW Penguin players seem to be lower maintenance individuals - Crosby and Malkin do not appear to feel the need to create drama like Ben and AB do
This Post-Gazette article discusses that attitude by the Pens
For an hour or so on the ice at Bridgestone Arena, just like at SAP Center a year ago, the media got to eavesdrop on the Pittsburgh Penguins. We asked questions and we kept them from their families. We jammed tape recorders and cameras in their collective faces, trying to catch a brief glimpse into the psyches of a bunch of guys who, 2016 notwithstanding, were at a personal and professional apex.
So, yes, it’s weird. It’s also endlessly cool. It’s special. And the whole process seems counterintuitive; if ever there were a time where they could say “get the hell away from me” and have all of us understand, it’s in this particular moment.
They never do, though — they always have time. Every team, every guy — they always have time.

Sydney now has 3 Stanley Cups, time for Ben to get 3 Super Bowls
In the 3rd period when the Pens killed the 5-3 power play I had that same feeling I had almost 40 years ago when the Steelers were down to the Rams at halftime. I just knew they would win the game.
Nashville played Game 6 very tough and smothered everybody, but the Pens are just too deep and stole one. Hats off to Nashville, but champions find a way to win.
If the Steelers had the Pen's defense there would be no stopping them.

Ever since Sid (the kid) got drafted and had to live up to the moniker "The Next One", most fans outside of the burg usually refer to him as Cindy. It's not even like he named himself like "King" LeBron... He's had to live with and overcome a lot of that shit.
Another Similarity to your comparison is that Pittsburgh, like Bahston, has at least 5 championships in 3 sports...

It is not just fans. After he got done ranting about how the Predators lost the game because of the disallowed goal early in the second period, Michael Wilbon (by his own admission a Blackhawks fan) went off on PTI today about how Crosby is a great player but that Wilbon dislikes him because Crosby is constantly whining
Preds had 4 PPs with one a 5-3 and couldn't score. The Pens had no PPs and managed to win.
