Brian Allen became the first member of Pittsburgh's rookie class to sign with the Steelers, inking a four-year deal on Monday.
The 6'3, 215-pound defensive back was Pittsburgh's fifth round pick in the 2017 NFL Draft. After converting from wide receiver to cornerback, Allan picked off four passes during his final season at Utah while breaking up six passes. He will now look to compete with William Gay, Ross Cockrell, Senquez Golson, Coty Sensabaugh and fellow rookie Cameron Sutton for playing time alongside second year cornerback, Artie Burns.
“He has good skills with playing the football, is long at the line of scrimmage and plays press coverage in man,” defensive backs coach Carnell Lake said of Allen, via Steelers.com. “He hasn’t played the position very long, but he has shown a real knack for a position-converted receiver.
