At the same time that Butt is ready to play, Ladarius Green should be entering concussion protocol. Really. Play Green for the first half of the season, place him on IR, and replace him with Butt.

Yes but they are tracked differently. I can't remember if it is pro days or pre draft visits but I think under Colbert almost no first round guy has been picked unless they had a pre draft visit....or it might have been him going to their pro day. It is one or the other. And they typically draft 3 to 4 guys they had a pre draft visit with IIRC. So if history holds, expect a few of the next few picks to have been visitors.

A few weeks ago, there was an article (Steelers Depot?) saying just that, and they claimed that Bud Dupree was a "surprise" pick, because he wasn't a "pre-draft visit". As I have averred for weeks: Tomlin ate dinner with Dupree (not a "surprise" pick at all).
My point is that the only "surprise" thus far is JuJu. Tomlin ate dinner with Watt, and Tomlin met 1:1 with Sutton three separate times... and, yes, Conner was a "pre-draft visit".
Make sense?
So, the players listed with *** all had "interactions" (dinner, 1:1 meetings, and/or "pre-draft visits") with the Steelers.

Connor Harris. With how we use our ILBs, any chance Harris could even sniff the field? 5'11" is what he's listed, which probably means under 5'10" in reality. Weight SHOULD be in the high 220s/low 230s, he weighs in at 245. Let's call him 5'10" and 240. Great tackler, nonstop motor, eats gravel and pisses fire, but can he be anything other than ST specialist on this team? Thoughts?
Sounds like an Alstott type FB over ILB to me.

Won't be shocked if they go QB.

They can think this all they want, but it's never been their players, they have had a lot of talented players, it's their ownership!
If they only win a handful of games this year, they will fire all their coaches again, like they always do, and these young guys will have to learn all new play books again.
Until the browns learn to be patient and make intelligent coaching decisions they will always be a joke! I mean 20 years of garbage isn't because of a lack of talented players, how could it be when you're always picking at the top of the draft.

Josh Dobbs...Aeronautics major plus SEC QB. Was not that impressive, IMO, but what can that brain accomplish if he could just concentrate on football?
Nate Peterman...Pro style QB from a major program. Most accurate passer of the 3 QBs that visited, but perhaps the 'weakest arm strength'.
Brad Kaaya...Maybe 'best arm strength', but with accuracy issues. Mechanics can be fixed with time/repetition and good coaching.
All have high ceiling and low floor. Personally, I would rather not. Even though one is apt to become very good.

I would prefer to wait till next year on a QB, but being a TN fan, I wouldn't mind Dobbs, if he could sit behind Ben for at least two years, he Could develop into a Cam Newton type, plus he's just a good, smart kid.

I like any/all of the CBs that I listed. Kazee didn't visit, but he can play both man and zone; if he was 2 inches taller, he'd have been a R2 pick.
And, I could get on board with that R5 & R6.

A corner I'm really interested in is Brian Allen from Utah.
He's a converted WR, but he is a true press corner. Gets right up in the face of WRs and is very physical at the LOS. At 6' 3" 215, he has great size and excellent speed.
The problem is he is not a good tackler because he just isn't comfortable with it since the change to defense. He would need some coaching up with the tackling, but you can't teach speed, length, and natural press cover skills.
Maybe a consideration in the 5th round?
What do you guys think?

Don't get me wrong...this kid is raw. But he really shows some ability, particularly in press coverage. He still gets caught with poor footwork at times and just hasn't played the position long enough to have this stuff down. It intrigues me to think of what all that size and athleticism can do with some great full-time NFL coaching.
He is one of those guys that I've been wondering about this entire off-season.
Hell, I hope he's there in the 7th and they take a shot at him. It's not often I get excited about a player like this, but what a great project with that elite athleticism.

Here's the thing. If they think Sutton is going to play the slot, maybe they look at another outside CB.
King is a safety. He won't be a CB at the NFL level. He has great instincts but he needs to learn the position. It's just a projection that he can play S.
Butt is solid and would be a very safe pick.
Phillips needs to get bigger and stronger....and I'm not sure he can add more weight and strength.

I've been pretty clear that I wanted Chad Kelly or Mahomes, but Dobbs isn't a terrible consolation prize. Again, not trying to throw gasoline on the fire, but some of the same poster names that are hating this pick are the same people that spend 35% of each regular season blasting Landry Jones and the front office's inability to locate a quality back-up QB. Good Back-up QBs with some starting potential don't just grow on trees - they cost actual real live draft picks to acquire.
Now is Dobbs "the guy" I don't know? But he will be better than theses QBs: Kizer, Webb, Peterman, and the Iowa guy. And the Browns will be starting Kizer by midseason. Someone will be trying to have noodlearmed Peterman start by mid 2018.
At least Dobbs has some untapped potential.

........But I was Nostradamus much earlier in history than BlackAndGold!
Do I get anything extra for my early evaluation?
You are Papa Nostradamus

This is an bad pick if he is only an patrice squad guy....even in the 5th round
I wouldnt cling to David Todds opinion , he has some traits , some Ike Taylor like traits and similarities from my quick research
not a tackler is part of everyones opinion hopefully lake gets that straightened out quickly and lets see where he is in August

Great. Entire DB corps doesn't know how to tackle. Used to be that everyone could tackle but couldn't catch. Guess we shall see how it goes in the other extreme.

I can live with that, especially if they are good for preventing the catch!

Yeah most WRs don't know hot to tackle. He's definitely got the measureables. But so did the LB from Washington that got cut.

I dont see how Todd can say the guy is practice squad?
1) Theyre not exactly oozing with talent in the secondary
2)Training camp is a looong way away

Here's a highlight video.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v1fr6dFasQs
He's a converted WR that recently moved to corner. He's 6' 3" 215. Ran 4.48 at combine.
He has natural press cover skills. He's physical at the LOS with a good punch to disrupt routes and with his length has excellent instincts in trail coverage on deep routes.
He's very raw. He needs to work on footwork and some technique, and he's not a confident tackler. He needs to work on some things but he's a very athletic big man.
I've had my eye on him since the beginning of the evaluation process. I got to see him play, and I was impressed with the way he moves, the physical style in press coverage, and his natural ball skills and cover skills.
He's one of those guys that if he develops the way you think he could, he could be an absolute steal with his athleticism and size.

from a purely talent standpoint, Devonte Fields might be the best edge rusher left by far. Character concerns (domestic violence charges which were dropped when he took anger management courses), but the steelers showed interest in him. late throw away picks at this point, well worth a shot

I like the Allen pick. Love his length and ability to press cover. I see no similarities to Ike other than length. Ike had way better hips, as well as speed. This is probably my second favorite pick of the draft, behind Conner.

Browns have had a good draft. On paper at least. Bad coaching and Bad ownership are the recipe for ruining great talent.

Won't be shocked if he goes undrafted.
Undersized, injury history, already 24 years old.

Appearances and a 1-15 record get you the top pick in the draft.
