NFL gambling policy tested by arm-wrestling event
Nearly three dozen NFL players are in Las Vegas this weekend for a competition that classically captures the macho spirit of football: Arm wrestling.

Dubbed the inaugural “Pro Football Arm Wrestling Championship” — with heavyweight and light heavyweight crowns in play — it’s a made-for-TV deal, to air on CBS over two weekends later this spring....

That the event is being staged at the MGM Grand Hotel and Casino has captured the attention of the suits at NFL headquarters on Park Avenue. The NFL’s gambling policy, of course, prohibits players from appearing at casinos as part of promotional events.

According to the NFL, players participating in this specific event — without pre-approval — are in violation of the gambling policy and subject to discipline.

With discipline perhaps coming in the form of a fine, the stage may be set for another skirmish between flamboyant Pittsburgh Steelers linebacker James Harrison and his friends in New York.

Harrison, a vocal critic of Goodell who has had a series of differences with the NFL over a range of issues, is coaching one of the teams in the event.

So the players cannot participate in an event held at a Vegas casino, but the Raiders can move to Vegas and the NFL had no problem with financing for the Vegas stadium initially being bankrolled by Sheldon Adelson, who owns casinos - got it.

At some point Goodell and friends really seem to be trying to drive fans away from the game with their money grubbing hypocrisy.

Doesn't help that Commissioner Asshat still has sand in his vag over the times Harrison called him out

Goodell is drooling now. Harrison will be suspended. For how many games is the real question.

I hope Harrison knows about that and brings it to light. Roger will have a hard time explaining that one

They shut down Romo's event because it was supposed to occur at a casino. The players can't have an event but Jerrah and Bobby Kraftgate can have a stake in DraftKings.

And hosting a "party cruise" replete with gambling. :coffee:

On February 19, "Gronk's Party Ship" set sail from Miami to a private island in the Bahamas. Rob Gronkowski, the Patriots tight end known for his hard-partying lifestyle, played host to a gaggle of disciple bros and bro-ettes, along with artists like Flo Rida, Waka Flocka Flame, Redfoo and more.

The Norwegian cruise ship on which the event was held featured a full casino, and on Monday morning Brian New of CBS Dallas/Fort Worth reported that an NFL attorney told him the league would be investigating the cruise for violating its gambling policy. Additional reports suggested the league had informed Gronkowski of the potential violation. The NFL strictly prohibits its players from participating in events held at gambling-related establishments.

But it turns out the event will not be investigated after all...

It never happened. An NFL S.W.A.T. team dropped from blimp flashing the new Las Vegas Raiders logo. They stormed the event, and while they escorted the offending players from the premises, they passed out 10% discount coupons at the concession stands when the new stadium opens and DraftKings promotional cards rained down from the ceiling.

:sofunny:

Just kidding, of course.

The NFL is so screwed up it's beyond belief.

The problem Commissioner Asshat is so focused on showing everyone how powerful he is, he has done it at the expense of all trace of common sense and care for the players

James Harrison incident challenges NFL's gambling double standard

The league has been sued by various entities over the cancellation or relocation of such events under threats that the players would be either unable to attend or would be disciplined if they had.

One such suit was filed last year by the nonprofit Strikes for Kids after the charity said the NFL pressured it into moving its 2015 event out of a Las Vegas casino bowling alley. A reported 25 NFL players were to participate.

“There’s no consistency with what the NFL does in regards to these policies,” Strikes for Kids attorney Julie Pettit told the Legal Sports Report. “The NFL has a tendency to selectively enforce their own policies when it’s convenient for them or when it makes sense for them.”

Fan Expo LLC also sued the NFL in October for more than $1 million in damages over the canceled NFF convention in Las Vegas last summer, according to ESPN.

Other events involving NFL players at casinos reportedly have not come under scrutiny by the league, including a 2014 Strikes for Kids event held at a casino, according to the Legal Sports Report.

There is no consistency with what the NFL/Goodhell does in regards to ANY policy.
