Not for 8m a year.

With Landry Jones expected to at least test the free agent market, the Pittsburgh Steelers are checking in on other options. One name they are reportedly interested in is Mike Glennon, per this tweet by Bleacher Report’s Jason Cole.

No way he comes to the Steelers to be a backup if teams like the Jets and Bears are going to offer him more money and a chance to potentially start.

Agreed!! I like the guy as a backup with backup type money so as not to hurt the cap space.

More talented football than some of those currently on a team's roster are available in FA. Shockingly team appears interested.

The silly season is upon us.

At the right price, definitely bring him, but if it turns into an expensive bidding war, drop out

It would have to be more than $7 million per year because that is what the Bubs have offered him.

He will command too much money. But I would sign him in a secure be as a back up. A good back up is going to easily cost in the neighborhood of 3-5M.

The quarterback draft class is not very good this year so I'm not sure we'd see the Steelers draft Ben's replacement with this draft.

I've actually mentioned that too. I think it is a great idea. Like I said, I could give a crap about his or anyone elses' politics. Kap is a better QB than Landry Jones. Full Stop. IF the dollars are comparable, it wouldn't even be a choice if I was GM. I would be tripping over things to get the pen in his hand.

Doubtful Kaepernick is going to sign for a guaranteed seat on the bench unless Ben is injured.

He may sign for an almost vet minimum rate but it will be somewhere where he has a chance to play - there are enough teams with bad QB situations for Kap to get a shot to start somewhere

Agreed the national anthem protest would be anon-issue even if Kaepernick had not said this week he will be ending that action going forward

That is the most likely scenario. Like you said that there enough dodgy QB situations around the league there is no reason that Kap or Glennon needs to sign in Pittsburgh to ride the bench.

If I was Kaepernick, I would take less money than I could get elsewhere and try and talk Houston in to letting me start there. Even for a year. Rehab market value by taking that team on a playoff run.

Draft a damn QB and be done with it, if Mahomes is available take him. Every single year the Steelers draft 2-3 Linebackers and listening to Colbert they really don't see a glaring need in this drafts and Colbert has come out and said they are willing to spend a high draft pick on QB. Ben hasn't committed to returning this season (we all know he will) but it would be far better to have a QB in place than to wait till Ben retires and a rookie has no active QB to learn from. This team can draft a LB in the 2nd or 3rd round and they'll be just fine

Kaepernick was a horrible QB last season...to the point that I wouldn't call him a QB. He's more athletic than Landry Jones but I wouldn't say he's a better QB. Kordell Stewart was as athletic as the come. Sign Kaepernick and you're looking at MV2.0.

Screw that idiot qb from san fran, he can eat a big fat crap sandwich as far as I am concerned. The only reason he protested was to keep his ass from being cut. Not only is he a crap qb and person, he is the polar opposite of what the players (Harrison, and Villenueva) stand for. There is no way in hell the Steelers would ever seriously consider bringing that sob onto this team.

That idiot is "THE MOST" polarizing player in the NFL.

Try $14-15 million:rofl2:

According to Charles Robinson of Yahoo Sports, the expectation among sources at the Scouting Combine was that Glennon’s next deal would come in around the $14 million to $15 million per year range (https://twitter.com/CharlesRobinson/status/838588037915426817).

http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2017/03/06/mike-glennon-deal-pegged-at-the-14-million-15-million-range/

I think the smart move is to free up cap space by releasing Pouncey and DeCastro to bring in Glennon

Glennon beat us in 2014!

Seriously, we have already seen some teams in the pass give a big contract to a QB that had proved nothing like Houston last year.

Kaepernick comes to town and I won't be watching the Steelers this season, as much as it would literally pain me. Dude belittles and berates the people I've shed blood, sweat, and tears with in my job. He is the last guy I'd ever want to see wearing the Black and Gold right now. They could bring Bubby Brister out of retirement and I'd be more supportive of that move. I don't care for Squidward's political views but I could overlook those. Insulting my profession and everyone in it... I just couldn't watch him, even if he was a bench warmer.

I don't want to get into a debate with anyone about it, that's just my personal thoughts on him.

I like Mike Glennon, but as others have said, he's probably going somewhere where he has the chance to be a starter. He's done enough sitting around behind Jameis Winston in Tampa Bay and probably wants a chance to prove himself.

So.....back to Glennon......you guys think he's going to the Bears? I think that's most likely. Hearing some word about SF and AZ showing interest too. He's been backing up Winston, and I'm not sure Winston could generate this much buzz if he were being shopped. The Browns should go after him. At least you know what you're getting.

Aaron Rodgers agrees

Rodgers was asked by Jason Wilde of ESPN Radio in Wisconsin if Glennon’s deal will lead to talks about his own contract. “I think it has to,” Rodgers said (https://twitter.com/jasonjwilde/status/839516852028125185).

http://sports.yahoo.com/news/aaron-rodgers-wants-to-talk-about-his-contract-after-hearing-what-mike-glennon-will-make-174613120.html

Rodgers will get a base salary of $12.25 million in 2017 before that escalates to $19.8 million in 2018 and $20 million in 2019 for his current contract.

http://www.spotrac.com/nfl/green-bay-packers/aaron-rodgers-3745/

Packers might have a situation like the Steelers did with AB and need to put some of the 2018/2019 $$$ into Rodgers 2017 payments before a new deal, which probably was going to be after this season
