We cannot kick FG's against the Patriots. If we do it's a blowout for them.

This team is reminding me more and more of the 2005 team. Doing good, mid-season losing streak, have to fight just to make it into the playoffs, good first game, gets out of a tough second game by the skin of their teeth . . .

Hoping next week's game will be at least half as easy as the AFC Championship game in 05, doubt it though, that will be tough

Playoff victories don't come easy!

Any playoff win is a great win. AFC championship here we come.

Ben needs two more wins this year!

I like their chances.

We won a playoff game on the road without scoring a TD. I think that really shows how far our defense has come.

Oh man, this freakin team gives you heart palpitations that's for damn sure. A win is win but they better come out firing against the Pats because The Pats will bury you quick if you play like they did today. What was it? Five or six times in the red zone and can't put it in?! A lot of work ahead this week. Here we go!

Yep. As I said early on . . . just give 'em time. We had rookies that had to get up to speed and second year players that had to settle in. Something no one is really talking about right now is what this playoff run is doing for our three defensive rookies. If we can just make the SB, not even win it, then they will have played another half of a season (as the two DBs played around 8 games as starters, no?) Next year they're going to come in so much stronger due to this playoff run, regardless of what happens next week.

Ok 2010, was that when we lost to GB? Ewww. I was trying to remember the year the Pens won the Stanley Cup and Steelers won the bowl (I think 2009, not sure). Doesn't this year have that feel to it? The Steelers and Pens both champs again!! Maybe it's our fate!

Whatever. If Houston had any semblance of an actual NFL QB, we'd be hosting the Texans in the AFCCG next week.

Ignore the ESPN hype. They're not all that.

They're not as dangerous as they have been in the past, but they DID go 14-2 and just hung over 30 on a good defense....all while looking like crap lol

I've never been so happy to be wrong. SOOOOO glad to get this win. I'll gladly eat crow.

I wanted this matchup with NE. With Ben, a chance for revenge, a much improved defense.
I actually like our chances in this one way more than I did tonight.

What better way to silence doubters, than to beat Brady and Bill?

I'm feeling a Super Bowl 45 rematch.

Patriots 4.5-point favorites over Steelers; Falcons favored by 4 over Packers

David Purdum
ESPN Staff Writer

The New England Patriots and Atlanta Falcons are the favorites in the NFL conference championship games.

The Westgate Las Vegas SuperBook opened the Patriots as 4.5-point home favorites over the Pittsburgh Steelers in the AFC Championship Game at Gillette Stadium. There was early line movement toward the Patriots, who were up to 5.5-point favorites at several sportsbooks late Sunday night.

In the NFC Championship Game, the Falcons are 4-point home favorites over the visiting Green Bay Packers. The line got as high as Atlanta -6, before settling back at four.

No doubt they have an incredible offense, but I was convinced that the packers were going to be favorite because of Rodgers.

I'm not as worried about the Pats' redzone defense as I was about the Chiefs' redzone defense. The Pats defense is less stingy. We should be able to score some touchdowns against them.

I think the Pats are #1 in scoring defense. Not sure of the redzone stats, but if you let up the least amount of points in the league - that's pretty stingy.

Excerpt from this article discusses the remaining teams, including the Patriots, relying on their offenses

New England (ranked 16th in defensive DVOA at the end of the regular season) and Pittsburgh (11th) don’t have bad defenses, but Atlanta (27th) and Green Bay (20th) do.... In fact, this is the first time in the history of Football Outsiders DVOA, which goes back to 1989, that zero top-10 regular-season defenses made it to the conference championship round. Hell, there’s been only one other season (2007) without at least one top-five defense in the final four.

Now, you might be saying, “But what about the Patriots? They had the best scoring defense in the league!” And allow us to stop you right there. They had that against the easiest schedule of offenses in the NFL (http://www.footballoutsiders.com/stats/teamdef) this season. Sure, you can beat only who’s in front of you, but context is important. In a quarterback-driven league, the Patriots lucked into a schedule heavy on game managers, backups, and turnover machines. They got the bad, early-season versions of Carson Palmer and Ryan Tannehill, faced off against Brock Osweiler twice — and let’s stop here for a second. The Patriots played one of the worst quarterbacks in the NFL in the divisional round of the playoffs! Oh, they also faced Tyrod Taylor twice, and his team doesn’t even seem to want him anymore (http://www.wkbw.com/sports/bills/bills-bench-qb-tyrod-taylor-for-ej-manuel-future-with-team-uncertain). They beat Charlie Whitehurst, Cody Kessler, Andy Dalton, and Landry Jones (who played when Ben Roethlisberger was out with a meniscus injury in Week 7), and lost to the best quarterback on their schedule, Russell Wilson, at home. The rest of the group is a meditation on sub-average signal-calling: Colin Kaepernick, Ryan Fitzpatrick, Jared Goff, Joe Flacco, Trevor Siemian, Bryce Petty, and Matt Moore.

We’ll finally get to see how the Patriots stack up against a top-tier quarterback next weekend.

Case in point: they cough up the ball against us on their side of the field. Landry Jones then proceeds to piss away a golden opportunity to jump on them early by throwing an INT in the end zone.

Like I said in another thread, I hope they're as generous with the giveaways next Sunday as they were against the Texans.
