It's Black Monday in the NFL, though some teams didn't wait until Monday (or the end of the season) to fire their head coach. Current vacancies:
Los Angeles Rams (fired Jeff Fisher)
Buffalo Bills (fired Rex Ryan)
San Francisco 49ers (fired Chip Kelly)
San Diego Chargers (fired Mike McCoy)
Denver Broncos (Gary Kubiak retiring)
I think we could see the New Orleans Saints job open up, I think the Rams could be interested in trading for Sean Payton.

Early reports out of Cincy that they plan to keep Marvin Lewis.
Thank the lord.

Hard to believe that next year will be the 15th season of Marvin Lewis as head coach...Bill Cowher was head coach for 15 seasons too.

Saints fans still believe in Payton/Brees. The FO just extended the coach 5 years, for what that means in reality. The issue in NOLA has been the defense. The offense has been rolling along with those 2 running things. But we'll see how loud 3 straight seasons of 7-9 gets. If the FO does make a move, it had better have huge results, and fast.
NE could lose both OC and DC.
Hope we keep Munch thru all the moves.

And they both will likely end up huge disappointments, especially McDaniels in his 2nd stint
The NFL ruined the Saints when they suspended Payton. They took a blossoming franchise with the potential to become a cornerstone and wrecked it. The NFL should be ashamed.

Supposedly, there is interest by the Rams in Payton. It would take the right package of draft picks to get him, but I could see him interested - especially knowing that Brees is nearing retirement.

It was the equivalent to the death penalty SMU received for their football program, IMO. The NFL suspended the HC, who was the OC as well, and the DC, right as training camps were starting up. Spagnolo, who was to be the new DC had to take over as HC. Just a complete cluster.

I would not blame him a bit if he did leave for another HC job. The way the organization, fans, and players feel about the coach really has no play in Payton's career plans. Part of being a football coach is moving teams every 3-5 years. For the majority of them.

Why? He was a train wreck here in Denver. We're talking Rich Kotite-level bad. He's STILL laughed at here.
Although it will be fun to watch him crash and burn again somewhere else without his daddy Belichick around.

Kubiak is "retiring" at 55? To Arizona with Arians?
Elway fired Fox for losing the Superbowl.

Kubiak has had some health issues and that's why he's retiring. He can't go take a job elsewhere until his contact with the Broncos is up (unless they give him permission).

As BigNastyDefense stated, Kubiak is retiring due to health. I wish him the best.

So basically he offered Jon Gruden a job behind Chuck Pagano's back and made Pagano the 2nd option if Gruden didn't want it. Jim Irsay for you

Well, I don't think he ever really been considered a good owner as much as a lucky one.

Why do teams keep trying to hire John Gruden?

Because he's a name. Same reason teams consider Cowher.

Gruden did a fine job in Oakland. Give him that. The Tampa job was Dungy's. They didn't do much after that SB and Gruden got let go. Not saying he's not a good coach. Not at all. Just don't understand the constant whispers.
