Forty years ago, in the 1976 NFL season, Franco Harris and Rocky Bleier rushed for 100 yards or more in the same game three times. Now, it’s notable when two running backs among 32 teams reach that mark in the same week.


DeAngelo Williams of the Steelers was one of only two backs to rush for 100 yards in Week 1 of the NFL season. What once was a common occurrence on a weekly basis in the league is now recognized for its scarcity.


When Harris and Bleier were churning out the yards on inside traps and quick tosses, it was a different era of NFL football. Having a strong running game was a prerequisite for a winning team.


That’s not the case today, when many NFL teams simply ignore the running game and rely on the arms of their franchise quarterbacks............
