This has been going on for a while, really. Jaws have been broken. Knees have been damaged. Concussions have been registered. And it appears to keep escalating.


The series between the Steelers and Cincinnati Bengals that resumes today at Heinz Field has taken on more than just a nasty tone. It has become football’s version of demolition derby, except the damage inflicted is occurring to knees, joints, ligaments and brains.


The victims have been among the best players on both sides. And, in several instances, the timing couldn’t have been worse.


In the past two decades, the Steelers have had bad blood with the Baltimore Ravens. With the Bengals, it has been spilled blood.
These teams shouldn’t have locker rooms. They should have triage units.


“It’s the physical nature of the game, at least on our end,” said Steelers defensive end Cam Heyward. “We’re not looking to end anyone’s career. We’re not trying to take people out. We’re just trying to play a physical brand of football. That’s what comes when you play in these kinds of games.”


At least three rules changes have been enacted by the NFL because of the nastiness of this series. And enough money in fines has been collected to buy someone an Aston Martin...........
