The Pro Football Hall of Fame issued its list of 94 nominees for the Class of 2017 Wednesday night, and it should come as no surprise that another Steelers player and one who hails from Pittsburgh lead the list of those eligible for the first time.

Hines Ward, who caught more passes than anyone in Steelers history, and defensive end Jason Taylor, who graduated from Woodland Hills High School and played 15 years in the NFL, join halfback LaDainian Tomlinson as the headliners among those on the ballot for the first time.

Also nominated in his first year of eligibility is former Steelers linebacker Joey Porter, now their outside linebackers coach.

Guard Alan Faneca, who played 10 of his 13 seasons with the Steelers, reached the final 15 in his first time on the ballot last season and returns for his second chance.

Bill Cowher, who coached the Steelers for 15 seasons, has made the list of nominees again. Buddy Parker, who coached the Steelers after coaching the Detroit Lions to two NFL titles, also is on the list.

I'm afraid they won't acknowledge Hines' blocking play. Really amazing what he could do as a blocker.

I might be biased in thinking he should go in right away, but if you don't believe me you can go peruse his 100 mile long highlight reel, if you really wanna see a play maker in action.

Hines Ward changed the way that football is played. Before him, blocking was something that receivers did half-way (if at all). Now... every receiver is expected to block on running plays (albeit, none are anywhere near as effective as Hines).

The naysayers will cry that Hines doesn't have the stats... well, neither does Kurt Cobain (Nirvana). Cobain only has three albums under his belt, but he changed music forever.

Hines Ward = Kurt Cobain

Ward will get in someday...as he should. It's just going to take a long time...

I think Ward was a closet line backer. I think he liked to hit as much as he liked to catch passes. Hell, they named a rules after him.

I can see Hines getting in the HOF eventually, but I don't think he'll get in right away.

WIDE RECEIVERS (10): Isaac Bruce, Henry Ellard (also PR), Torry Holt, Chad Johnson, Derrick Mason (also KR/PR), *Terrell Owens, Sterling Sharpe, Jimmy Smith, Rod Smith, Hines Ward

Hines will get in but he'll have to wait. Not that he doesn't deserve it but he'll have to fight idiots like Peter King who whine that there are too many Steelers in the HOF. Also, the WR's and other candidates at other positions, ahead of him as well.

Terrell Owens and Isaac Bruce are the only two on that list that I would immediately say are better than Hines Ward. Probably Torry Holt too...so 3...

Having watched Hines almost every week of his career, my opinion may be biased.

the super bowl MVP and 4 pro bowls really jump off the page. if two of those pro bowls were all-pro, i think he would be a shoe in.

I don't think Pro Bowls rank anymore...half the league makes it in one way or another anymore...

They were always a step below "All Pro" in my book. THey should put asterisks for any Pro Bowl berths after Goodhell's dumb recent changes.

Unfortunately I don't think that Hines is going to get in for a while. A lot of what he did and what made him great just doesn't show up in the stat sheets.
