With an early-season showdown with the Cincinnati Bengals looming four days away at Heinz Field, quarterback Ben Roethlisberger did his best to avoid fanning the flames of a rivalry that reached a boiling point last season.
Asked if the heightened physicality of Steelers-Bengals games is the result of the injuries that Steelers have sustained at the hands of Cincinnati players in recent meetings, Roethlisberger made sure that wasn't a looming headline.
“That would insinuate retaliation,” Roethlisberger said Wednesday morning, “and that's not who we are. I think it's a physical football game and a physical division — and that's what we expect: a physical football game.
“Clean.”
