Clearly Williams. Not that the O-Line was horrible but...a lot of those yards by Williams were gotten by his self. He clearly was a Warrior tonight.

Deangelo would get my primary one. He seemed to bring the offense to life. I think his running opened up the passing game.

Otherwise obviously Ben. The entire offensive line, and of course AB.

Shazier probably stood out on the defense as best as anyone did. They mostly got the job done. But in a rather boring way.

GAME BALL:

Offense:

Ben R. 27/37 for 73 percent, 300 yards and a rating of 112.4 On top of that, he looked rusty in the first quarter - those numbers and he looked rusty!
Antonio Brown. 8 Rec. 126 yards and 2 tds. 73 percent completion average. What a game.
D.Will. 26 carries, 143 yards and 2 TDs. Yeah, how old is he again? It really is impressive, and his pick up last year still looks to be one of the best staff decisions of the last two or three years.
Eli Rogers. He dropped 1 ball (ended up being a turnover), but besides that, he caught every ball thrown to him for 59 yards. Even better was his reactions for the surprise TD.

Defense:

Ryan Shazier. A heck of a night. 2 Passes defended, an INT, five solo tackles.

Honorable Mentions:

Timmons. Had a solid game, defended a pass, 8 total tackles, and a very nice bullrush right after L.J. Fort's.
O Line. Played well tonight.

Single Play Goats:

Jesse James. Got abused a couple of times on rushes. He'll learn.
Antonio Brown. Twerking. Please. Stop

Overall, I was happy with the game. I'm not sure I liked the slow start, which I blame Tomlin for, with how little the O starters played in preseason. On the other hand, it's a long season, and I'd rather start a tad slow, than hit a wall in the end of November. The defensive scheme was the same as last year, but it was (1) executed better, and (2) made to look better by Cousins's inaccuracy. Nevertheless, compared to where we were this time last year, I think our secondary is about as good as last year's mid-season secondary at this point.

I pretty much agree. I think a few of the calls were iffy, but then again, there's a good chance they were setting up later plays, so overall, a B+. I can't quite bring myself to give him an A-, but that may be more because of the slow start, which wasn't his fault really.

Just got back to the hotel from the game and after the Steelers scored their second touchdown, the Redskins fans were silent and pretty much were for the rest of the game. There were so many Steelers fans and Terrible Towels that someone could have mistaken it for a home game. An honorary game ball goes to all the Steelers fans who came out.

Game ball: Ben, Deanglo, Antonio, and the offensive line.

Ben was ridiculously accurate (despite pressure and adversity), on top of giving one of the most impressive displays in pocket awareness an NFL QB could possibly give, so there's no other choice for me.

Roethlisberger. Yes, clear game ball to Roethlisberger even ahead of Williams. Williams ran solidly, but not spectacularly until Ben started going off. Ben was the engine to the offensive machine tonight. Way to go Ben. Keep playing like that all season long

One thing is for certain, the defense needs to get pressure. The Redskins are an average team at best so it didn't matter much.

Well, since the Steelers gameplanned away from it and rushed three often enough and sitting back in zone to take pressure off their rookie safety and Cockerill, or sometimes rushed four, I'm not as concerned. It was the right gameplan for the right game. Can't do something like that against a Brady or such, but in this situation? Yeah, sit back and make him throw into coverage. Two ints and one TD the entire game. Not bad. Not bad at all.

Coaching staff. I saw a well executed game plan. They stuck to it when it was working -- and were especially patient with the ground game. The coaches primed the pump with two 4th down calls in the 1st half, which totally sparked the Offense. The team was well prepared, with very few penalties.

There was every mark of a well coached and prepared team out there. Definitely we had stand out playmakers as well, but this game we should have won, and we did win, not by individual heroics, but with a solid game plan on offense, and on defense. And yeah, we don't need to pressure Cousins. We need to confuse him and patiently let him make mistakes. It was the right plan for the right team. This is probably why Tomlin "gets away with it" :-)

The coaching staff definitely deserves some credit. We came out a bit flat in the first quarter but after that I think they did a very good job.

AB, Ben, DeAngelo, the OL (mostly) and Shazier all played very well.

I think Ben called an audible on those 4th & 1 pass plays, it's his signature. I still give the game ball to Williams because the offense did nothing while Ben was trying to force the ball in the 1st quarter and the Skins' D just rushed everybody. Once Williams got the ball regularly the entire game changed. Ben was super fantastic for 3 quarters while Williams played the entire game.

I wouldn't, not after almost getting Ben killed a couple of times. He looked like turnstile out there. I'm pretty sure he'll improve, maybe even become a decent to good player, but right now, he's the extreme weak link when it comes to blocking on the line.

I don't think so, Tomlin said that was the play that was called, I believe Ben said the same. It was Tomlin's call to go for it on both 4th downs and I suppose Haleys call on the play.

I think that this game was an absolutely perfect beginning to what I hope is a perfect season... After a frustratingly slow start, it seemed like the team gelled into a 'team' - - well prepared and very cognizant of where they needed to be almost flawlessly.... After they got the first game jitters out of the way - - where I sat here wondering if the pre-season was going to continue - - I saw good playing - - - teamwork - - covering for each other for the most part and Ben just being the Ben that we all love so much.... After the weekend, I was optimistic about this season, and I hope that the injury bug doesn't hit us - - - if it doesn't, this could be the year!!!!! I fell asleep Monday night with a big grin and happy dreams....

Edited to add - - - Skip Bayless is a bigger jerk than I thought he was.... Good grief...
