Steelers first-round pick Burns expected to play Friday against Saints

It looks as though rookie cornerback Artie Burns will make his debut when the Steelers play their third preseason game Friday night in New Orleans.

Burns, the team’s first-round draft pick, missed the first two games and nearly all practices at their Saint Vincent College training camp, went through Wednesday’s practice with no problem. He had been working through a thigh injury.

“It was a big day for Artie Burns. We got significant work from him,” Mike Tomlin said during a 10-minute press briefing after practice.

Steelers fans will have to wait longer for their first in-game look at this season's first-round pick.

Cornerback Artie Burns told the Tribune-Review that he will not play in Friday's preseason game at the New Orleans Saints, the third consecutive preseason game he will miss to begin his career.

“I'm not playing this week,” Burns said. “I most definitely will be back next week, though.

“Just taking everything day by day. I've just got to make sure I am ready to be back in game mode, really.”
