Trying to find meaning from a meaningless preseason game is like looking for love in all the wrong places.


Nevertheless, as Johnny Lee sang it, playing a fools game, hoping to win:


The Steelers original Young Money trio of receivers were Antonio Brown, Mike Wallace and Emmanuel Sanders. Now they have three young wannabees in Sammie Coates, Eli Rogers and Cobi Hamilton trying to make their case while Martavis Bryant serves a season-long suspension, Antonio Brown gets a pass through the first two games and Marcus Wheaton remains out with an injury.

Coates, the Steelers’ third-round pick last year, made amends in his second preseason game with at least one outstanding 24-yard, toe-tapping catch along the sideline.


Rogers, undrafted from Louisville, spent his rookie season on the Steelers’ injured- reserve list (foot) and continues to nail down the starting slot-receiver spot.


Hamilton signed two weeks ago with the Steelers after training camp started and is one intriguing prospect. He played at Arkansas, where he set team records with 90 catches for 1,335 yards as a senior. Cincinnati drafted him in the sixth round in 2013 and this is his fifth NFL team, with two tours of duty with the Bengals...........
