It is hard not to notice Daryl Richardson on a football field, even if he did not have the Troy Polamalu-like mane that fans out halfway down his back and covers his name and most of his number 38.

He hits a hole fast, runs hard through it, cuts crisply and looks like a halfback who has been around the block a little, which he has.

Richardson took to Heinz Field Friday night the way he did Chuck Noll Field at Saint Vincent College the past two weeks. His 11 carries were nine more than anyone else for the Steelers in their 30-17 preseason loss to Detroit, and he gained 44 yards.

His 4.0 average per carry is misleading because besides some impressive runs such as two in a second-quarter series, one around left end for 12 and another around right end for eight, the middle often was clogged behind the second-team line.

Mike Tomlin was not happy after his team’s performance against the Lions, but he liked how Richardson ran........

He made some good runs from what I saw. Yes, against scrubs but still some good runs.

Yes, he definitely is. I watched him when he was with the Rams and always liked him. Very fast with good vision and hands. He can also return kicks.

He should be our #3 HB.

Wonder if they will keep all 4 RB's?

With Bells injury history, and Williams age, it may be smart to keep both Richardson, and Toussaint on the 53.
