Grant's 39-yard interception return was the Steelers' first touchdown of this preseason.DORAN GRANT
Cornerback
Takeaways, particularly interceptions, should be an emphasis for the defense throughout the 2016 season, and Doran Grant (http://www.steelers.com/team/roster/doran-grant/b589428f-fbfb-4e29-bcc1-89c84ef89a48/) gave the Steelers exactly what they were looking for in the second quarter of their preseason opener, which ended up being a 30-17 loss to the Detroit Lions at Heinz Field...........

I didn't get to see the game, but from the box score it appears he was pretty active. Good to see since Golson is done.

Not to be a downer, but I didn't think his performance was that great. The int was being in the right place at the right time and then he walked into the endzone. He actually reminded me a lot of A.Blake. Allow the catch and make the tackle, which isn't terrible, but is also the reason everyone wanted Blake gone. With all that being said, it was a solid performance, but nothing impressive. I would have given it to D-Rich.

Everyone wanted Blake gone because he couldn't tackle, which basically made him utterly useless.

I'd agree he wasn't great at tackling in run support, but when it came to tackling after a catch he was solid.

I agree, it wasn't all it was cracked up to be. He didn't have to fight for it or jump a route. On the other side, at least it showed game awareness. The one who should be praised for that play is the pressure man that forced him to step up and heave it. (I don't remember exactly who it was).
As for Blake, the problem wasn't tackling the catch. That's pretty much the Steelers defense now - a zone keep-it-in-front-of-you defense. The problem with Blake was that he couldn't keep it in front of him, or close fast enough to not allow YAC, iirc.

the loss of Senquez Golson may be bigger than we realize, I know it's only one preseason game but Sean Davis does not look like he can be our starting slot CB...

Yeah, you're right. He did allow a lot of yac. Grant did a good job of keeping everything in front of him, and making the tackle, but nothing spectacular. If I remember right, the man applying the heat was Matthews.

The play where Boldin turned him around was ugly, but for a rookie, I liked what I saw out of Davis. He was sloppy, but that's normal for a rookie. He had a knack for being around the football. Just needs to clean things up. Still think he's better suited as a safety.
On a side note, Mitchell looked really good and if I am correct, Shamarko got the nod over Golden, which is surprising.

I felt the same. Blake, BTW, just didn't tackle...lol.

Davis gave up 3 first downs, two of them on third down. I don't think he's a slot CB, I agree with you that he's much better suited to play safety...

How do I block posters? I'm trying to block the people who think Blake could tackle. I never want to hear any ludicrous thing they may say in the future.

Hahaha.....you better block everyone, because just about everyone on this board has said or will say something ludicrous, ( including and possibly especially me).

I'm not a fan of the guy, but he was 2nd on the team in tackles, so those statements are really ludacris.
