Democrats and Republicans are not the only groups who enjoy a good slogan these days. The Steelers, who have had their share through the years, should adopt another as they report to training camp today at Saint Vincent College Latrobe.

How about: “Stay Healthy, Stay Eligible, Stay Home.”

Home? Not literally, but certainly coach Mike Tomlin has every incentive not to ask a handful of his stars to even get out of their dorm beds over the next three weeks. Injuries have played too large a role in knocking the Steelers off their track the past several seasons, expanding to an epidemic in 2015.

That experience calls for a new tactic. The NFL eliminated twice daily practices in training camps in their 2011 collective bargaining agreement. Tomlin should take it one more step and eliminate practice all together for selected players.

Who might those be? Here is a modest list that easily could expand: Ben Roethlisberger, Antonio Brown, James Harrison, Le’Veon Bell, DeAngelo Williams, Maurkice Pouncey, Cam Heyward, Lawrence Timmons, Ramon Foster, David DeCastro, Marcus Gilbert, William Gay and Mike Mitchell.

Really, do any of them need three weeks of training camp?..........
