And we lose our lookout for peeing after a night out partying.

PITTSBURGH – The Steelers have released tight end Matt Spaeth with the designation of Failed Physical, the team announced today.

“Matt never fully recovered from knee surgery that occurred this past offseason, and he will not be ready to return to football activities at this time,” said General Manager Kevin Colbert. “Matt played an integral role in our Super Bowl XLIII Championship run, and we wish him the best in his future endeavors.”

Good decision....A TE that is just here to block is now useless.I prefer to see the playmakers on the field!

That may be true, but a blocking TE has been an integral part of our offense for years. At the moment, I don't see any proven player on the roster who can handle the blocking responsibilities that Miller and Spaeth had.

It's just that I prefer to see the playmakers on the field than in the sideline.Maybe in the 3rd and 1 or goaline situation this is a significant loss but for the rest, I rather see the playmakers on the field!

But even in the position of 3rd and 1 or goal line situation, I have confidence on Bell and Williams to be effective in this role. The steelers have a very good o-line too.

Well, we can't sit there wringing our hands about it. If the guy just can't play, then he can't play and there's nothing we can do about it. We still haven't seen James' full potential, so there's hope he can at least be adequate.

Blocking-wise, I wonder if this means we see more of Nix, either in sets with a true FB or inserting him as a stopgap TE sometimes? :noidea:

I also think that the coaches have a lot of faith in our o-line as well...unlike years past.

we did sign David Johnson, so it looks like his spot is practically a lock now and not such a headscratcher

I believe I read somewhere Jesse James' blocking had improved a good bit.

Good point. The Mandel Dixon signing may mean that they are looking at Dixon as a H-back/Fullback and Johnson may be looked at as a blocker.

This.

Spaeth was needed before Munchak got there and our young o-line was starting out. Now, our o-line is good and no longer traffic cones. That makes Spaeth expendable.
