Why not? I'm sure nothing's guaranteed so if he's just there as a camp body, so be it.

we need another message board whipping boy now that Antwan Blake is gone and who better than David Johnson?

They released UDFA TE David Reeves to make room for DJ, who btw really didn't have a shot at making the 53 nor PS.

Solid move.

This is the same David Johnson who did next to nothing for us for 3 or 4 years, right? I guess just insurance in case one of the other guys gets hurt? Or maybe we're bringing back that half-assed ineffective H-Back bullshit.

Intriguing how you guys are either all in, or all out. It's just spring. Let things simmer some before knee jerk reactions to every move. Kinda silly reading on here lately.

Personally I think the negativity, sarcasm, complaining and arguing adds a bit of flavor to the board.

Pretty much what immediately popped into my head when I read this. He wasn't very good when we had him last time.

What, I mean, this guy had several seasons with us and did nothing memorable. I guess if we need an emergency backup it's an OK signing, but what exactly do you want out of this except a big ho-hum?

Another former steeler who signed elsewhere returns. I guess competition for Roosevelt Nix?

Camp body who "knows" what he's supposed to be doing.

or perhaps just to provide some veteran depth at the FB/TE/H-Back role in case of injuries...

Knock it off with the sensible, thoughtful opinions.

You better curb that shit right now.

to be fair he's an H-back and what H-back is ever memorable. my confusion is that the steelers free agents from other teams pretty much always make the team. where is the room for this guy on the team? guess we decided to replace 2 full backs on the 53 man roster with a fullback + H-back

Johnson is a blocking TE plain and simple. Good at it or not is irrelevant since he's not going to make the 53. He can provide a camp body to help show rookies how. With our blocking schemes and such. It's a non story really.

think the 2008 Draft was a disaster? David Johnson is now the only 2009 draft choice on our roster:

First round: Ziggy Hood, DE

Third round: Kraig Urbik, G, Mike Wallace, WR, and Keenan Lewis, CB

Fifth round: Joe Burnett, DB, Frank Summers, RB

Sixth round: Ra'Shon Harris, DT

Seventh round: A.Q. Shipley, C, and David Johnson, TE

thats actually a pretty good draft. kraig urbik, mike wallace, keenan lewis, AQ Shipley, and David Johnson all pretty much met or exceeded their draft pedigree. netting 5 of those kinds of players in any single draft is a boon. unfortunately not a lot of these players reached their potential with us or left. and blah blah blah mike wallace drama. the 2008 draft was just straight up bad

My thinking exactly. Why dress 2 fullbacks last year to play 20% of the offensive snaps combined and touch the ball 5 times?

I liked Will Johnson. I don't feel he needed to be upgraded or that Nix is an upgrade. And I never liked David Johnson though he has improved from missing every block by virtue of somehow staying in the NFL.
