At this point, I'm ready for the Steelers to take some shots at small-school possibilities. Maybe someone who can step in quickly as punt returner and work his way into the roster as a CB or WR

Maybe we can discuss if questioning Bill Cowher's quarterback picks takes away my Steelers Fan Card.
did you know Bill Cowher didn't want to select Big Ben and our meddling owner had to step in and overrule him? :stirthepot:

Here's another thought . . . Do we want to try and go TE in the next pick? Yes, we picked one up, but I'd like to see us develop another one from within as well. Just looking at metrics alone (I don't watch college FB), a couple names are intriguing. Beau Sandland had a top 6 40 for TE, and benched 23 times. He also shows good vertical at 35" and tops in broad jump. And, the kid can hit as a blocker. (https://www.youtube.com/watch?time_continue=34&v=8F38ubP9uuE)

Great return man, that may be able to develop into a corner that can contribute down the road.

What a ridiculous pick. I can't believe you would want him on our football team. That pick is so bad, I'm embarrassed for you. The Steelers shouldn't even look at this guy. They should run the other way. If someone in the war room mentions his name, they should be fired on the spot or at the very least be forced to sniff Cam Thomas' jock strap.

You know, the more I look at the kid, the more I like what I see. I'd love to see this guy in the 5th or 6th round. I think we could see him on the field a bit towards the end of this year, and have him more of a constant next year. Give him a couple of years to fill out and the coaches to work with him, I think he might be a solid contributor.

Word last night was he had a surprise knee problem that teams were concerned about. I just hope be doesn't turn out to really be a first round talent and now he's busting our balls for the next 10 years. Somewhere, BengalGirl5150 is laughing her ass off.
We haven't taken a linebacker yet, lost one ILB and are set to lose 2-3 OLBs next year depending on whether we re-sign anyone. I would be stunned if we didn't take one this draft; maybe that's what this trading up talk is about.

I"m not sold on James. On top of which, I have no problem putting the guy on the PS for the beginning of the year. He seems like he can both block and catch, and has a drive to finish plays from some of his highlights. Of course, those pick the best plays, so who knows.

dark horse speculation: Maybe it was Kalan Reed. Gotta remember that our 6th round pick is reaaaally deep in the 6th round so its more like a 7th round pick really.
I want Kalan Reed so bad. And yes, I'm willing to hold onto 6 CB's to do it (at least if you count Doran Grant on that 6. Personally i would prefer to let Sean Davis and Grant focus on becoming safeties for now)

Feeney is 6'4" 230 pounds and ran the 40 in 4.5 seconds. Also a safety that was converted to a LB.
This pick has dime/quarter defense written on it - as well as a possible cover-3 for certain situations, having a LB that can drop back as safety or come up. Maybe a Nickel back for certain situations.

He's had four shoulder surgeries.
He's a hybrid OLB/S. His injury issues seem to tell you that he will be used more in coverage than at the point of attack.
He's very athletic, only the injuries are a concern.

I like the Feeney pick ... probably not much of a pass rusher at this point, but I guess we got tired of having linebackers who leave the big lumbering tight end wide open on 3rd-and-8.
The rest - well, what do you want, it's the 7th round. Scattershot at positions where you might need depth in a year or two. If we get anything out of either one, it's a bonus.
