Williams, the outspoken Pittsburgh Steelers running back, saved some of his best open-field moves for Twitter on Monday, going back and forth with CBS Sports NFL reporter Pete Prisco and others about how bad Manning was last season. Manning threw 17 interceptions to nine touchdowns before the Broncos sidelined him for six games with a foot injury. Denver won the Super Bowl with Manning at quarterback, but a dominant defense catalyzed the championship run.

http://espn.go.com/blog/pittsburgh-steelers/post/_/id/17890/deangelo-williams-peyton-manning-couldnt-play-dead-in-a-western-in-2015 That was a really STUPID thing for DeAngalo to do.

His message may be spot on, but the timing of which he said it publically could not have been worse.

You just don't publically piss on a HOF'er during his Retirement announcement day.

Totally Classless DeAngelo. You know better than that.

You owe Peyton an apology. Not for WHAT you said, but for WHEN you said it.

Really liked D'Angelo initially but he definitely likes to hear himself talk and does a little too much of it.

For as much crap as I have to continue to read and listen to about our QB, I really don't care.

It's also beginning to look like Manning isn't quite as pure as the driven snow as he's been portrayed all these years.

And it's funny, but I didn't see the commissioner suspending Manning for a quarter of the season over the HGH allegations or publicly bashing Manning during Super Bowl week later in the same season. :coffee:

His tweets are cringe worthy, wish he'd stfu.

What exactly did he say that was inaccurate? If Ben had played like Manning, he'd have been run out of town.

Yet the Exalted Saint Peyton is somehow above all reproach. :bs:

Deangelo is obviously just a jealous hater. :heh:

I don't have a problem for what he said. People were trying to make it sound like Manning was the season they won the SB, just because he was announcing what most people knew was coming.

Manning is an all-time great. The only people that would deny that are completely ignorant.

But last year he played like hot garbage. DW spoke the truth.

I'm sure when Ben retires, there will be plenty of "bad teammate" and "rapist" comments made by people including the media.

He wasn't wrong, everyone knows Peyton wasn't good this past season. He looks like an idiot for bashing a man who was retiring.

Peyton will be wearing a gold jacket someday, Williams won't.

We don't know the relationships made in the NFL. Williams and Manning may be on the same page with his tweets and all cool. Or...maybe it's a parting shot.

It's funny - I live in Denver and the Broncos "faithful" were literally SCREAMING for Osweiler in mid-October.

Ben is going to get absolutely shellacked, especially since he isn't one of the "faces of the league" that Goodell and Company are trying to pimp 24x7x365.

Which is another reason I want Ben to get (at least) one more Lombardi so badly - because it's no secret that cockgobbling commissioner would like nothing better to see him never so much as sniff another SB. Hopefully it will also be soon enough for Harrison to still be around to offer to give Goodell a "rectal exam" with it.

Exactly this. It seems to me like he was just being a contrarian for the heck of it. People congratulating and honoring him and D Will comes in with this stuff.

A little context: DeAngelo Williams explains, defends Peyton tweets (http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap3000000642198/article/deangelo-williams-explains-defends-peyton-tweets)

Of course there's the question of why he bothered getting into a Twitter "argument" with a slack-jawed moron like Prisco in the first place, but anyway...

I know that Peyton was bad in 2015, but it was not the time to criticize Manning during the day of his retirement.

I thought it was in far worse taste for the (liberal) media to begin dumping on Nancy Reagan before her corpse was even cold (http://www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news/analysis-did-nancy-reagan-s-war-drugs-backfire-n533476), but that's just me, I guess. :noidea:

(To be fair, a little more context is in order here - the writer of that piece (Tony Dokoupil) was about 4 years old back when Nancy Reagan began her "just say no" campaign and who literally seems to equate Reagan's "war on drugs" to a Miami Vice episode (http://www.cbsnews.com/news/the-surprising-result-of-a-sons-search-for-his-father/). What, you mean all vice cops back in the '80s didn't wear Armani suits and drive around in Ferraris?!?)

Meh. He was taken out of context in an online tweet w/Pete Prisco.

So what. It's not like DWill is beating women in an elevator or cheating.

I don't have any problems with the comment. I thought it was going to be way worse. Sure, it's always best not to say word, but all he said was Manning had a fantastic career, but last year he sucked.

I think Tomlin's Twitter comment to Williams was worse. Choose a private forum to discipline/warn/educate your players.

Nope. If something's being done in public, then shut it down in public. If it's being done in private, then shut it down in private. Had he actually disciplined or warned him, then I'd agree it was too far. But he didn't. He just shut it down.

I would do it privately rather than treating him like a kid in front of the Internet world. Unless Williams has a habit of acting like a kid. Just my take on it.

Who cares? Honestly that is all I can think about once the story starts being about who tweeted what feelings/opinions on what unimportant nonsense.

Remember when news was actually about stuff? Remember when reporters only were heard from when they had something in the neighborhood of information to pass on?

Geez, I'm not even 40 and I am starting to sound like a bitter old bastard. But this whole watching someone's social media with baited breath thing has got to stop. If I wanted to know what any of the Steelers players were tweeting, I would join Twitter and follow them.

Oh. Well. Rant over.
