Maurkice Pouncey quietly ready for debut
September, 8, 2010 Sep 82:00PM ETEmail Print Comments2 By James WalkerPITTSBURGH -- Memo to Steeler Nation: This is a big week for center Maurkice Pouncey, too.

PounceyThe rookie first-round pick is making his NFL debut Sunday against the Atlanta Falcons. But he's not getting nearly as much fanfare this week, because most of the attention is on quarterback Dennis Dixon's second career start.

"I'm happy," Pouncey said with a big smile Wednesday. "Don't talk about me; I play center. I don't want all that publicity."

I can't wait to see what he can do. Keep it quiet, keep it real, and make some big arse holes for Mendy to run through!

Did Hartwig get picked up yet?

I think I'm going to love this guy. Heck, I love him already

Jonathan Babineaux is pretty good but he is suspended. the others and corey peters and peria jerry, young, inexperienced but highly rated out of college players like Pouncey. But at least they are 4-3 and this line needs to improve against 4-3

I'd say his real test will come week 2 against the titans. And the best test week 4 against baltimore. Plus he gets to go against Gerald McCoy week 3, who called Pouncey the toughest lineman he faced in college

Pouncey poised to live up to lofty expectations (http://blog.triblive.com/view-from-the-press-box/2010/09/08/pouncey-poised-to-live-up-to-lofty-expectations/)

Maurkice Pouncey is well aware of the Steelers’ lineage at center where he is slated to start Sunday against the Falcons.
“I have a lot to live up to,” the rookie first-round pick said.

Pouncey may get some help in trying to continue the Steelers’ tradition of excellence at his position.
He has been exchanging text messages with Dermontti Dawson, who made seven consecutive Pro Bowls from 1992-98 and is arguably the best center of his era.

“He reached out to me,” Pouncey said. “He called me after I got drafted and we talked for a little bit. Ever since then we’ve been texting every now and then back and forth.”............

Jerry was a pass rusher with a quick first step and a motor that didn't quit coming off of college, but he's coming off a torn ACL and was rumored to have suffered a setback at some point in his rehab process.

The_Duke, thanks for reminding me their other DT was suspended. Totally forgot about that.

I remember Peters having something like 22.5 TFL with Kentucky his senior year, but he's just a rookie.

Thanks for the info guys. Doesn't sound like the worst case scenario for Pouncy by any means.

Can't wait to watch Pouncey this weekend. I just hope he can get the push to help set up the running game. If he can clog the middle and give Dixon time to do what he needs to do then we should be ok.
