And the price is right as well.

And the price is right as well.

Definitely. This is basically what I imagined. He didn't have enough tape to demand starter money in FA so we were going to be his best fit because we knew his value better than anyone.

I kike this , we did not have to over pay for the guy who is in line to be the starter but is also in line to be upgraded .. he is perfect as a spot duty starter while we wait for a rookie to over take him by midseason

With that being said, maybe he can just step into that starter role also, I thought he played well in the limited snaps he had. Maybe he just needs to get his time in to make his impact felt. Then we have a good starter for little money and we won't have to rush along his eventual replacement.

Just some food for thought:

“If I trusted anybody to be ready on this defense, it would be Robert,” defensive coordinator Keith Butler said in October, per Ray Fittipaldo of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. “He studies the game. He works at his craft. He’s a very smart football player, very good at playing above the neck. He doesn’t get out of position a lot. I’m very comfortable with him.”

I absolutely LOVE this move. Good player at a GREAT price. If he turns out to be the starter, I'm perfectly confident in him. If not, it's still worth the money to have a solid backup. I noticed this season sometimes they used him in the dime package instead of a fourth CB, and he got good results there too.

So much for having to pay triple because Minnesota made a dumb move with their guy. Although I do think Golden could've gotten a little more for himself. Still, good for us.

Agreed.

Plus, he is the captain of Special teams and is valuable there.

So our back up safety position is set. Good! Now on to the draft.

He was so much better than Allen. Great signing, id say this puts a damper on us trying to sign a starter level safety in free agency, but plenty of good safeties in this draft. ill be happy with him as our opening day safety regardless of who we draft

Less than 2 mil a year for Golden is great value. Couldn't have come up with a better contract for him

A+ deal. Takes some pressure off the draft. Now if they could perform a brain transplant on Shamarko we would be set.

They aren't going to re-sign Will Allen so they can combine his old and wise brain with Shemarkos body and maybe we have ourselves someone.

I predict Willie Gay to be next in line to re-sign...

Good depth for safety and special teams.
