The types of players the Steelers would target in FA are not going to play for Jax for a ton of money anyways.

I would like to see what Mario Williams could do on our Dline with Tuitt and Heyward.

teams with lots of money can have most anyone they want ( we all realize that ) but what lies within that is free agency tone gets set , while they cant get all the players they set up a panic and teams often sign quickly others that would often be bargain pieces for above market value ( not always but it does effect the market )

So they'll get Janoris Jenkins, who has made it clear he's not signing for less than $XX,XXX,XXX a year anyway, a similarly expensive pass rusher, and a few randoms. There are over 600 free agents every year. Throw out half who are crap, two-thirds of the remainder who wouldn't help us, and that still leaves something like 95 for us to pick from.

I don't care. Let them spend. It's been proven many times that you can't buy a Super Bowl. Just ask the Eagles and their "Dream Team" from a few years back. What good did spending all of that money in free agency do the Dolphins this past season? They were still bad.

It's not about just spending money. You have to find the right players who play well together.

Also, many of these free agents are just looking for a pay day and once they get paid, they won't perform the same way.

lol you do realize there is 1695 roster spots total in the nfl ( not including practice squad fodder )

if each team had 20 free agents and resigned half of them in the exclusive period that would be 320 total roster worthy free agents ..

throw out half like you suggest and you are down to 160 ...

two thirds of the remainder who won't help us and you are at 40 ...

two thirds of them will be grossly over paid ....

leaving about a dozen ...

half of those will be wrong side of 30

now you are at 6

one third of those coming off injury

now you are at 4

1 retires now you are at 3

of those 3 1 has Patriot stink on him leaving you just 2

of the 2 one of them has a history of being a locker room cancer

now we are down to just 1

wish that fat bastard could play the nose but as it turns out its Lamar Woodley after finishing up what all was left at the buffet line

Anyway, basically any player that is going to be signed with that kind of arms-race spending is not a player we can contend for anyway. We'll get a guy with a medium price tag, and hopefully we'll get the best one of those guys that's available. Not much we can do to affect that situation.
