Even a 4-3 base defense for most teams that run that have become sub packages. Base defenses have not become nickel and dime packages because so many teams run a 3 or 4 receiver set. The fullback has essentially become extinct in the NFL, few teams have a true blocking FB on the roster, often if a team runs a play that requires one it's either a bigger RB or a TE and not a true FB who's only job on the offense is to be a lead blocker.

It reduces the need to find and retain a quality NT. It all depends on your defensive philosophy and the roster. You can't expect an Archer to pass block just like you couldn't convert Ike Taylor to WR.

NTs have become rare because more teams run the 3-4. Since it's more common you lose the natural advantage. Steelers are adapting and did better than the same old tackle the catch prevent win defense that got stale.
