By Gerry Dulac / Pittsburgh Post-GazetteDENVER — James Harrison sat at his locker, his eyes red, his voice choking and barely above his whisper.
He had just played one of his best games of the season, stuffing three run plays for a loss and registering the only sack on Broncos quarterback Peyton Manning.
But Harrison took deep breaths and fought back tears because he isn’t sure if the 23-16 defeat to the Broncos was the final game he will play with the Steelers.

“It’s a little tougher for me because I’m in a situation where I’m a little uncertain about what I’m going to do,” Harrison said. “I can’t say that [was my final game] right now, I wouldn’t be comfortable saying that.”
Harrison, who has another year left on his contract, said last week he would like to return for the 2016 season. But as he sat at his locker, he said, “Me wanting to come back and me coming back are two different things.”
Then he added, “I’m 37 years old, I’ll be 38 . It’s not as easy as I would hope.”
Harrison, the 2008 NFL defensive player of the year who was named to five consecutive Pro Bowls from 2007-11, will go down as one of the best big-play linebackers in franchise history. His 100-yard interception return for a touchdown in Super Bowl XLIII against the Arizona Cardinals ranks as one of the greatest individual plays in Super Bowl history.
Harrison was hoping he would get another chance at a Super Bowl, but the Broncos dashed that hope with a touchdown and field goal in the final three minutes.
“They played better than we did,” Harrison said. “They finished the game out, we didn’t. They played better than we did in the fourth quarter, all sides — offense, defense and special teams.”

If he leaves the Steelers need to find his replacement. Maybe Chickillo can do it.

He needs to go out like Bettis. One more year and call it a career.

Too early. He just finished a heartbreaking playoff game. He's tired. I'm sure after rest and a clear head, he will make a final decision.

Personally, he's got plenty to play another year. I think he comes back to try for another ring. I think Heath and him go out after 2016.

That's what I'm hoping for.

I hope he comes back for one more year, he has enough left in the tank for sure, not injured really at all this season. He has to know we will be a top contender next season and it will truly be his last chance for one last ring.

i pray that he will come back one more year. He is one of the leaders on this team and when he is on the field our Defense is so much better! He truly does lead by example

Do you want to win another Super Bowl? Then come back next year. All there is to it.

It depends on how his body feels. If his body can't do it this upcoming year, that's it.

They need his presence there.

I think he just needs to get home and spend some time recuperating both physically and mentally. Tough to make that call right after yesterday's game. Bet his boys talk him in to one more season.

If they can keep shlubs on the roster and still almost get to the SB, then just give Harrison a roster spot and let him set the tone for the defense. Play him more as the season progresses and have a fresh Silverback for the next run.

Hopefully Cool Shades didn't run his wheels off... :chuckle:

If James does call it a career, I think we are in the draft for a replacement pretty early again. I know, safety, cb, apparently te, are all needs that MUST get addressed. But if the right pass rusher is there....

TE isn't an immediate need.

TE isn't an immediate need.

Put that in there because of a mock that had us taking a te at 25.

TE isn't an immediate need.

No, but we shouldn't be drafting for immediate need. Rookies seldom fill immediate needs. That's a FA move. Draft should be for future help.

He played well this year. One more, for the road, James !
I think he's only 2 sacks away from Steelers all time sack leader?

James Harrison unsure whether he’ll retire or keep playing

Two years ago, Steelers linebacker James Harrison retired. This year he may do it again, for good.

Although Harrison came out of retirement in 2014 and has played the last two seasons for the Steelers, he now says he’s weighing his options and may retire permanently this year.

“I’m not ready to make any type of decision,” Harrison said, via the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. “If you were to ask me something like that right after a loss, nobody wants to go out with a loss. It’s going to be an immediate, ‘Yeah, I’m coming back,’ not taking into account everything else. Right now, I’m not ready to make that decision.”

Harrison played well last season, recording five sacks, four passes defensed, two forced fumbles and an interception. Although he’ll turn 38 in May, he still appears to have the physical ability to help the Steelers. He just has to decide if he wants to keep going, or call it a career.

They need him one more season...no matter how ineffective he may be on field...
