Some widgets from Mike Tomlin’s press conference today:
--- Not only will Dennis Dixon not have a short leash, he could remain the starter throughout these first four games if he performs well, even if Byron Leftwich returns to health.
“It depends on how he plays. And that’s the nature of the NFL,’’ Tomlin said today. “I think anybody who suggests anything different is misinformed or misleading you. Injuries are a part of the game. They are unfortunate, but they also provide opportunities for others. What those others do with the opportunities often times determine what happens going forward. I acknowledge that.”

--- There is no plan to use Charlie Batch as a “change of pace.’’

“That’s not our plan at this juncture,’’ Tomlin said. “We are going to play Dennis.”

--- Isaac Redman will be the short-yardage back, Tomlin announced. So adjust your Fantasy rosters in accordance. Rashard Mendenhall will keep his job as third-down back, which he held the second half of last season. However, Tomlin said he will keep track of Mendenhall’s carries because he does not want to overwork him. Apparently, Tomlin learned from his rookie season when he ran Willie Parker until the wheels fell off. He said both Mewelde Moore and Redman could step in.................

Yeah, I'll believe it when I see it.

My predicted stat line

Mendy 28-30 carries
Redman 5 carries
MeMo 1 carry for negative yards

C'mon Coach, it's 2010, you have to have 2 backs (dare I say 3) sharing the load. The one back workhorse days are OVER.

If those 5 carries are for short yardage first downs or TD's, I'll take it.

C'mon man, he's definitely not the league's #1 rusher but but there's been a few times I'd give that fucker a hug if I could. He's a little under rated IMO.

and I agree 100% about tandem backs!

Couldn't agree more.

I'm with you here smokin. MeMo is a HUGE part of our O and has made some big plays for us since he's been in the B & G. Can't help but love the guy!

I was exaggerating. Don't get me wrong, I like MeMO. It's not about him. It's about Tomlin's (Arians) misuse of his backs. MeMo definitely saved our butts in 2008. But Tomlin used Carey Davis BEFORE MeMo. Remember, Parker was hurt, Mendenhall went down, THEN he put in Carey freakin Davis BEFORE Mewelde Moore. Then Carey Davis got hurt....Finally he puts in Mewelde Moore. Should have been earlier though.
Last year, if MeMo was our #2 back, Tomlin (Arians) never used him correctly at least not like he did in 2008.

And if Redman gets some TD's good. But I hope his stat line doesn't read 5 carries or something miniscule like that. I hope he can get more than that.

At least we know Dixon is not as dumb a runner as this guy
