View Full Version : How is Williams loss going to hurt us?

So Todman or Fitzgerald??? I would trust them considering the solid job that the O-line has been blocking this season and creating lanes for Williams and Bell when he was there. I'd say Haley throws way more with Ben or does he try to catch Cincy off guard by running the ball more in the 1st half?
Btw, nice read here from reddit: http://sportstalkfeed.com/blackyellowblitz/3-keys-for-the-steelers-against-the-bengals-in-the-wild-card-round/

1st paragarph: It wasn’t easy but the Steelers are in the NFL Playoffs for the 2nd straight year. Thanks to the Bills from the great city of Buffalo along with a Steelers win against the Browns, the Steelers clinched the #6 seed and will travel to Cincinnati to take on the Bengals. This is looking to be an old-time classic playoff matchup with a lot of hate between the two teams, whether it’s Bengals fans hating Mike Mitchell and the Andy Dalton injury or Steelers fans hating Vontaze Burfict and how the Le’Veon Bell injury went down last season. It certainly has that Steelers/Ravens or Celtics/Lakers type of matchup hype, it will be a battle.

Later on in the article, its true about Bell injury in Week 17 of last year and this year with Williams are different due to where the offense was going in regards to playcalling as well as rhythm.

I don't know. I hope they give some opportunities to both Todman and Toussiant early on and see who's more effective.

The sense I got with Toussaint last game was that the line was blocking about the same for him as for Williams and opening a decent number of holes - but instead of finding the open spaces, he kept hesitating and running into the linemen's asses. That's not going to cut it.

Maybe Todman can do better, maybe not. But if Toussaint comes out running the ball like that, it's not going to help us, so I hope we can recognize that and not get stuck on him until midway through the fourth quarter, and then be saying what-if all offseason.

Todman seems like a better player to me, at least what I've seen on film. Hope he gets his chance.

You know... go five-wide.

AB, Wheaton, Bryant, DHB, and Heath. No team has a secondary deep enough to match up with those guys.

I feel the same, but like steelreserve said, I'd like to see bot have a shot to see which player is doing better. I'm most worried about the pass blocking to be honest...but then if necessary, I guess they could keep Heath in to play that role and go with James or DHB as a "TE/Receiver".

Cincy is going to go into pass coverage and dare us to run on them. They will not respect the threat. If we don't take advantage of that and gash them with running plays, then we will become one dimensional and ultimately lose this game.
If Touissant can hold up his end and make a credible threat (with the help of the line), then it will open up the playbook and we will demolish them.

We don't have to have a world- class running game to win this. It just has to be credible. Abandoning it at the outset would be a huge mistake.
I say we stick with the running game in the early going. If it becomes apparent that it won't pan out, then drop it and bet the house on the pass. But give it a fair shake first.
