Maybe they are using the tackling diagram from flag football? It looks like they are trying to strip the ball first and then try to get the offensive player down after giving up a bunch of extra yards.

Basically all of our defensive backs except Gay and Golden try to tackle by slamming into the ballcarrier with their shoulder. There's a definite time and place when that helps, but 1-on-1 tackling in the open field is not it.

They need to learn that when there's nobody else in a position to make the tackle right away, 50% of the time you bounce off the guy and look like an idiot while he runs for another 10 yards.
