not a game to get too cocky for. sure, the bengals choke in primetime a lot, and marvin lewis is the king of the one-and-done. in recent years, dalton is one of the worst if not THE worst in the league in those situations. but who knows how AJ McCarron will be in these types of situations. i doubt he has the yips as bad as dalton does in these situations. our defense isnt yet mediocre QB proof since tomlin keeps playing blake...

Pacman missed the last game and Leon Hall has been playing injured all season (anyone have updates on how thats going so far?). Theyll have more DB depth for this one.

No healthy Deangelo for this one, and maybe no Deangelo at all. Bengals will be pinning their ears back to try and tee off on Ben even harder than before. This is still the #1 scoring defense in the league. After watching Ben all season and especially after watching him make some really bad decisions against an awful Browns pass defense missing its starting CB's, i dont know how anybody can justify some of the overzealous throws Ben has been making.

3rd in the league in interceptions and thats despite missing 4 full games and pieces of 3 other games. Prorated to a 16 game season, Ben would still throw 26 TD's, which is good for only 14th in the league, and if his picks were prorated to a 16 game season, he would throw 20, which would easily lead the league.

He needs to be better than that for the playoffs. idk how we can expect those numbers to magically go down, but without Deangelo healthy, my expectation on Ben's turnovers goes from "hmmm we can probably get away with it" to "we need to get it under control."

Martavis needs to stop being a streaky son of a bitch. We already know we're going to get a lot of 2 deep safety looks so Heath needs to have one of his more active pass catching games of the season. Based on Tomlin's stubborness, i dont think it would surprise anyone if Fitzgerald hogged all the carries if Deangelo doesnt play, but that cant happen. Todman has had a sizeable number of touches in the NFL and had success so he needs a chance. If Deangelo is healthy, a good dose of play action to keep the safeties honest would be nice. We've really under utilized play action this season.

The keys to this game is winning the turnover battle, period. We win the turnover battle we will win. I think DW will be fine, he was on the sidelines running around after the half, I am sure he was out as a precaution. I am hoping our Def plays their best game of the year and Ben plays like he was a few games ago! We could run through the games we just played in the last couple weeks, Cincy and Denver. Both wins. I doubt we play NE in the AFCCG (if we make it) as I don't think NE gets out of the second round. Going to be a tough rode, but we have already beat 2 of the three teams on the way to a SB so it is definitely possible to make a deep run this season. All that said, anything we get in the playoffs is gravy as I honestly think our year to make a serious run is next season.

If the Steelers can get "hot" again, there's not a team in the league that can stop their offense...they're in a slump at the moment that they have to figure out a way to get out of it or it will be another one and done playoff run...

I wouldn't count on that. It's safe to assume at least one TO from Ben. It's just how the team deals with the adversity on the road.

IMO we can beat Cincy in Cincy. That's just a matter of playing football at the level we are capable of playing. But in the long run (and I hope I'm wrong) , I don't think we are capable of playing the kind of football that would be necessary to win it all. Our defense is too weak and our secondary especially. Our offense is also a little too one- dimensional.

I really want to be wrong about this and I'll happily eat crow if the Steelers win it all this year.

They interviewed Dalton before yesterday's game with Baltimore. He was asked if he would be ready to play next weekend in the playoffs. He hemmed and hawed, saying it depends, not up to me, but this (the injury), etc. I'm sitting there thinking how I would hope my starting QB would say "I'll be out there unless they tie me down!"

Granted, when push comes to shove, it's not up to Dalton, but to the doc and Marvin. But still, he did not sound like a quarterback willing to go if needed. Sounded like a real wussy.

if its any consolation for the strong possibiltiy of Deangelo being out, Ben did have 2 of his biggest performances of the year against 2 of the best defenses in the league (seahawks and broncos) during which Deangelo had poor games.

I think DW will play, too big of a game if it is just a pain issue and no issues with cutting or running, he will be in. Hell, if cutting is a little off, his pass blocking and outlet pass catching alone warrant him playing even if he can only run straight ahead on run plays. Seeing that AJ will be the QB makes me breathe a little easier, now we need to focus on stopping the run, pressing the WR's and getting the rush active against him. I would say the 2nd half gameplan we used against the Broncos would be perfect for this matchup. Don't give AJ the easy stuff underneath, give S help to AJ Greens side or just a 2 deep Safety look, have Shazier/Boykin jamming and covering Eifert and we should be good defensively. Ben needs to not turn over the ball and our offense should be fine.

And he has been huge in both regards. I don't know if Monsieur Touissant can block but he's going to have to step up, obviously, in that regard. He needs to handle that "first wave of terror", if you will, in a hostile environment. It's a 5 star matchup because we're in it.

Actually, the food was a point of contention.

I was thinking Mexican (taco shop). But, my brother reminded me that whenever I host (night games), I always make chili. So, as not to cause a disturbance in the Force, I'll forgo my craving for pollo asado and/or rolled tacos, and make chili.

The "such" is basically me trying to watch pre-game Steelers talk while holding a Grover toy and a Yoda stuffed animal and making them have a conversation.

"Near... far... near..."

"Far it is."

UPDATE:
It's raining in San Diego!!! Everything is shutting down, people are stocking up on canned goods, and Legoland may have melted; I can't confirm that last part.

You know what... I don't know.

The three other night games were the Tapes and Ravens on Thursdays, and I attended the Bolts game. I know we didn't have chili against San Diego. I think that we had it against Baltimore (although, Vick counteracted any of the "chili mojo"). And, I'm pretty sure we did NOT have it against New England (we got pizza for one of those Thursday games).

I know that 100% we had it against the Colts.

Now... my brother loves chili; so, I know that we had it two other weeks (regular game times: 10:00/1:00). But, I don't know which games...

Fuck it. I'll just go kill a bunch of chickens (just to be sure).

Dude, we are so in sync that it's scary. I was completely referencing that scene.

So much so, that if someone asked me if I was really going to sacrifice a chicken, I was going to reply: "Fuck you, Jobu, I'll do it myself."

Yeah, wtf is going on in SD? I saw a friend post on Twitter that SD has gone crazy? (He's a damn Ratbirds fan so meh... :chuckle:)

Here's the thing: if it sprinkles in San Diego, people freak out. As in: we get 1/8 inch of rain, and the canned goods fly off of the shelves and animals are collected in twos. I'm only partially embellishing, because freaking out is key to all of this.

Now... this summer, we had a bad drought. Hence, the ground dried out and shrubs died. Then, we get an inch of rain per hour for a few hours, and the top layer of soil (which has no plant roots to keep it in place) slides off the hills and into people's houses... as well as into the roads and gutters. That last part stops up the drainage, and all of a sudden there is 2 feet of water on major streets and the low parts of the freeways.

Add in a tornado warning or three, and voila! out come the kayaks.

That's us in a fake snow storm. 1/100 th inch of snow and they shut all 7 cities in the region down (city hall and schools/buses). Grocery stores look like Walkling Dead empty stores w/out the zombies and Glen and Maggie gettin buck wild. All the true Pittsburgh natives that live here (there are a lot!) laugh at us freaking out over basically nothing.

if its any consolation for the strong possibiltiy of Deangelo being out, Ben did have 2 of his biggest performances of the year against 2 of the best defenses in the league (seahawks and broncos) during which Deangelo had poor games.

were going to need that magic again. Especially if Blake plays a lot

Poor games running. But he did provide a good check down target in the passing game, his very presence in the backfield kept linebackers and safeties from getting into immediate coverage, thus helping free other receivers, and he's one of the better backs in the league picking up the blitz. If he doesn't play everyone on that offense's job becomes that much tougher. Honestly unless Toissant can prove himself a respectable replacement in all aspects of the job (which I seriously doubt) I don't think the Steelers can win this game.

If Landry Jones and Vick can beat the 13-3 Cardinals , the Steelers can beat the Bengals without Andy Dalton even if Williams not play.

The only thing I ask to the players who replace Williams is to be good in pass protection and catch a few ball.

I do not think the Steelers will need to score 30 points to win this game.

You listen to me carefully: MAKE WHATEVER YOU MAKE WHEN THEY WIN. If you don't make anything, your brother starves.

Well that is report on Fitz, good pass protection and out of the backfield. I think IF he has to be the guy, he will be fine. However, I think DW is going to play, he came here for a SB win, everyone knows him out there will be a key to that, they will probably have to cuff him to the locker room if he isnt cleared to play! We have a marginal chance to make it this year (better if our offense gets hot again) and I think we have a very good chance next season (barring injuries). DW knows what these last 2 chances mean for him, hell JH does too so I am thinking we are going to see a very productive couple of old dudes out there!

That's okay. Bryant will score two TDs, as will Wheaton. DHB will get one, just for good measure.

In addition to that, we can add the over/under on how many times he does it and doesn't get penalized for it.

So......................If Steelers make it to the superbowl, who would everybody like to face? I say rematch/redemption against the Packers. However, we have never played the Skins or Panthers in a superbowl, so fresh meat tastes best too.

I haven't had my coffee yet this morning so I didn't see the comma after "TD's" and was trying to figure out what the analogy connection was to him:

I agree. I was just thinking the same thing. They need to hit the TEs more to loosen things up and move the ball.
