Ben Roethlisberger had fewer passing yards than he'd had in any of his previous four games.
He didn't throw a touchdown pass for the first time in a span of 10 games in which he played in all four quarters.
Sunday's victory in Cincinnati was far from the most statistically gaudy performance Roethlisberger has had recently, but it might have best shown how “on fire” he is as a passer.
Big Ben is in a big-time zone right now.
Roethlisberger connected on all but nine of 39 pass attempts in a 33-20 victory against the Bengals. Many of those 30 completions were directly on target.
He connected on his first nine throws — to four receivers — and even his 10th throw was an intentional throwaway (and the right decision to do so). Of the nine, six couldn't have been walked over and set into the receiver's hands any better than Roethlisberger delivered them.
The 31-yard pass to Markus Wheaton — the Steelers' longest gain of the day — was the most aesthetically pleasing. The ball dropped over cornerback Josh Shaw but inside the sideline for Wheaton to catch in stride.
His first non-throwaway incompletion came on a ball he lofted 37 yards to a corner of the end zone toward a receiver (Martavis Bryant) who was well-covered, with a safety coming over to help.
The throw was accurate enough that Bryant had every opportunity to make a play on it.
