If you think the referees missed a lot of calls Sunday in the Pittsburgh Steelers win over the Cincinnati Bengals, your eyes were not deceiving you.
Not only did the referees miss Bengals linebacker Vontaze Burfict dirty hit below the knees (http://www.steelersdepot.com/2015/12/video-steelers-bengals-vontaze-burfict-ben-roethlisberger-cheap-shot/) on Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger in the first quarter, they also missed a blatant pass interference call in the second quarter that cost the team a touchdown.
With 7:55 left in the first half, Roethlisberger went deep to wide receiver Martavis Bryant in the end zone from 24 yards out and as you can clearly see in the animated gif below, Bengals cornerback Dre Kirkpatrick was draped all over the second-year player before the football arrived.
The Steelers subsequently had to settle for a field goal.

Seems like the refs have been allowing our receivers to get mugged in multiple games this season. Guess the league can't have the Steelers' WR's gaining too many yards/TD's. :ranger:

Just goes to show that good teams overcome bad officiating instead of whining about it.

And the hands to the face/facemask and basic mugging on the interception.

Also, on the AJ Green soccer kick, the ref was signaling TD and the kick was right after... Stevie Wonder and Ray Charles could have seen that kick.

Of course they aren't going to call any penalties against Ben and that thug won't be fined either

As nauseating as the officiating in this game was I completely agree with this sentiment. The officials were completely one sided and it was very obvious.

The officiating this season has been horrendous across the league but these last few Steelers games, it's been even worse...my God when is someone going to step in? A media person should put together clips of the hits on Roethlisberger and "go live" with it...call the NFL out.

The NFL needs to investigate this group of officials for being on the take. That's how bad this was.

Absolutely true.

Unfortunately, their fans still whine about it regardless, even while pointing fingers at other fans whining about it.

But unlike certain fanbases (http://www.seahawks.net/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=101794#p1486115), they don't start threads about the officiating crew they're getting that week days before the game is even played to bitch about them beforehand...

Are you sure about that?

And that's on this board alone, without looking at all the other Steelersboards around.

Any regular season games (which the aforementioned fanbase does with regularity) as opposed to playoff games where everything is scrutinized to the nth degree?

It's one thing to scrutinize, another to bitch before the game's even played. Is it as bad as Seattle? No. But it's not like we're lily-white pure, either.

EDIT: On another note, did you notice HTG's posts? Just seeing her name there put a smile on my face.

Point taken.

Yes, I did. :) I really miss her.

I honestly wonder sometimes if there's some sort of 'league-wide bounty' on Ben. I was going to add that I'm not really the conspiratorial type, but that would be lying!

I know one thing. Ike Taylor or Cortez Allen never got away with anything half that blatant. Hell half the reason Cortez lost confidence is because it got where he could sneeze in the general direction of a receiver and the flag was getting thrown.

You would think the NFL would have done something about the officiating already IF they really wanted a level playing field. I think they are more open to incremental adjustments rather than complete overhauls which is what is needed. They don't want to rock the money train.

They could start by hiring somebody or two to sit in the booth and review each play during the game.
