Is there anyone left who can defend Roger Goodell and his NFL Hacks?

BY ALEX KOZORA (http://www.steelersdepot.com/author/alex-kozora/) DECEMBER, 2015 AT 03:49 PM
In a surprising piece on information, Seattle Seahawks’ defensive lineman Michael Bennett was not fined by the league for his helmet-to-helmet hit on Ben Roethlisberger Sunday. The news was first reported by Ray Fittipaldo.

Seattle DE Michael Bennett was not fined by the NFL for his hit on Roethlisberger.
— Ray Fittipaldo (@rayfitt1) December 4, 2015 (https://twitter.com/rayfitt1/status/672877680690339840)

Bennett was flagged for roughing the passer but apparently, the league didn’t deem it egregious it enough for a fine. Bennett was been fined by the league several times this season. The hit left Roethlisberger with a concussion, forcing him out of the game on the final drive.
If you forgot, here’s a look at the play.

The result of the hit shouldn't matter. The fact that he went helmet to helmet via a late hit on the QB is enough.

That should have been at least $8,500 - $17k.

I think you could argue that Harrison's hit wasn't as hard?

If I recall correctly, that was at the stage where Harrison got suspended for one game and fined a game check.

I bet Bennett got a secret bonus from Gotohell. Gotohell isn't even trying to hide the fact that he hates Big Ben and the Steelers

That is a hard one to reconcile for me.

Blah, blah, blah. The league is so bush league now.

I really wish the league would have to give a reason as to why Bennett wouldn't be fined.

Ridiculous! The league is so arbitrary in how it hands out punishment, no rhyme or reason, nothing even resembling consistency. If that's not a fine-able hit then a lot of guys through out the league have refunds coming.

If I were a player like James Harrison, I'd sue the pants off Goodell.

No it is consistent, it is completely slanted towards who you play for or against. It is not even hidden it is outright, but the go to hell apologist will be sure to point out that if you believe in this you are a foil hat wearing theorist. Of course I don't know how they can see my foil hat with their heads buried in the sand.

I'm not surprised. No one gets fined for hitting Ben.

Bennett came in with his head down aimed right at Ben's helmet. He wasn't looking at what he was hitting, he was using his helmet as a weapon. Should've been a textbook fine.

He should sue him for all his fines to be returned. He obviously has a case.

:iagree:

Same with Roethlisberger and the 4 game checks he missed in 2010.

It bent up his facemask. But bending Ben's nose wasn't fined, either. :noidea:

If James Harrison had lowered his head and plowed directly into Tom Brady's face, who then ended up with a concussion, he'd be banned from the NFL, and his house would get repossessed.

This doesn't surprise me at all. Goodell has painted a target on Ben and more or less told the rest of the leauge, " Go get him boys", a long time ago. Hell, I'm more surprised that we got the flag.

Who was the member that was defending Goofdell? I forget who it was, but wondering if they still feel the same after the recent couple seasons.

I understand where they come from to some extent. Because I'm the guy who will defend the national sports media for the most part. I like Collingsworth , Aikman, Gruden etc... ( Simms is a moron though  ) So I'm good with taking an unpopular not with the flow stance. But at this point I don't know how anyone can defend the idiot Goodell? The only thing Goodell has done has he's proved the league is virtually idiot proof. I think a chimp could run the league as good, and the money would still continue to pour in. At some point hopefully the owners will realize the fans don't watch the game because of Goofdell.

A friend of mine and I were discussing this the other day, and I just remembered our point of agreement about this incident. The NFL seems to have inconsistencies on the issue of legal vs illegal contact, whereas the legal shove of Wilson by Timmons drew the exact same penalty as Bennett's plastering of Ben. Assuming Timmons' infraction was valid, the outcome of either penalty was not equal, where we lost our starting QB, and theirs just fell down a little. Now, all this anti-contact stuff goes back to 2010, and who knows how it's implementation has screwed us over the years, but I'd say the Steelers were affected by the new policies the most severely. Only though, I feel we were the most singled out, and many of our players were demonized for these tactics, while the same penalty was minimally enforced in our favor, if at all.

So all that being said, the NFL needs to decide how seriously they're going to take this issue, and how uniformly it's going to be punished. If the Timmons shove is the same thing as the Bennett waylay, then fine, let the penalty be the same except for one small detail, that I don't think any team in the league is going to argue with. And that is: "If contact resulting in a penalty (i.e. illegal) also causes the player, upon which the infraction was committed, to leave the game, then the player who committed said infraction must also be removed from play until the infractee is able to return to the game." And this would even apply to all FUTURE games, if the affected player is still unable. Is this amendment akin to the same pussification of the NFL that I've been so unhappy about for the last 5 years, well yes. But, at least it adds some consistency to the currently arbitrary method in which the NFL punishes such infractions. All fines aside, this would truly be a game changer.

Nope. Plenty of things to complain about.

I was arguing the fact that stats proved the general feeling around here didn't match reality.

As long as it benefits the Pats, Broncos, Packers or Ravens it is good for the NFL.

What STANDARD(s) are league officials using when judging/rating these types of plays ?

Really looks to be nothing but prejudicial on WHO is doing the hitting and WHO is getting hit.

It's gotten pretty disgusting at this point. Like I said, it's really ruining the integrity of this game.

Get some balls and call shit.... SHIT. Even Brady's and Sherman's shit STINKS !

No, seriously.... there's got to be other way's first.

IMHO, there needs to be ONE Petition to send a message. The Remove Hardy petition already has over 75,000 signatures.
