Here's my guess.Let's say we advance to the AFC title game. Maybe there's more than an outside chance that Pouncey would be ready by that point. But still not close to a given. So first thing is chances are you don't get that far to begin with. So bringing up the possibility he could possibly play then is pointless. Second why close a door if there's no reason to? At some point it may be possible that he emerges. But until you have something solid don't fuel false hope with the fans or more to the point your team.

I have to go with this! Also surgically related infections are tricky things. They need to be monitored very closely. Had a friend who broke his femur and pins put in. Within a week of their removal he had such a serious infection he came close to losing part of his leg. I'm sure at this point it's more about the infection than it is about the break.
