Steelers will prepare for both Josh McCown and Johnny Manziel

By Neal Coolong

Browns head coach Mike Pettine told reporters in Cleveland Tuesday Josh McCown will start at quarterback.

If he’s healthy. If not, Johnny Manziel will make his second start this year. He and the Browns were drubbed 31-10 by the Bengals in Week 9.

Steelers coach Mike Tomlin suggested something similar regarding Ben Roethlisberger’s radio declaration Tuesday that he hasn’t yet ruled himself out of Sunday’s game against the Browns.

Both coaches will plan accordingly. Mike Tomlin confirmed that during his press conference Tuesday.

“Obviously Josh is their guy, based on tape and the statistics bear that out,” Tomlin said, pointing out McCown has a passer rating of 130 on third downs.

“Obviously we have to prepare for the changes if Johnny does play, but the vast majority of our preparation will go toward Josh.”

Pettine likely will do the same thing as the 2-7 Browns prepare to head to Pittsburgh to take on the 5-4 Steelers at Heinz Field in Week 10. The Browns are all but eliminated from the postseason, but denting the Steelers’ chances at the postseason isn’t a result they’d mind much.

The question is whether they stand a chance. The Browns have been outscored 89-36 in their last three games, and have lost four straight since defeating a hapless Ravens team in Week 5.

McCown makes a difference within their offense. He’s completed 65 percent of his passes with 11 touchdowns and four interceptions in five games this year.

Should be easy to do. They both suck.
