View Full Version : Door 'slightly ajar' for Roethlisberger to play Sunday

Doctors initially feared on Sunday that Ben Roethlisberger suffered a Lisfranc foot injury that would've ended his season.

Instead, Roethlisberger was diagnosed with a mid-foot sprain, and Steelers coach Mike Tomlin refused on Tuesday during his weekly news conference to rule out Roethlisberger for Sunday's AFC North game at Heinz Field against the Browns.

“We will leave the door ajar for him,” Tomlin said. “But it's just slightly ajar. I think it's prudent that we anticipate playing without him and preparing to play with Landry Jones. I know that's what we are thinking right now as a staff as we prepare.” ...........

If he did play, he'd have another shitty game coming off an injury (which is my fear when we have to travel to Seattle)

Is this the same "door" that Bum Phillips tried to kick down in 1979?

Also, did Bum ever wear cool shades?

A guy named "Bum" probably doesn't wear anything that even remotely resembles cool.

Sometimes, you post some good stuff. Other times . . . it makes no sense at all. Yes, I get what you're trying to say, but "slightly ajar" is simply a metaphor for small possibility. Since it isn't a break, and since Ben's healing from his knee problem still, I'd think "small possibility" is a very accurate statement.

I think they know full well there is zero change of him playing.

Um, no.

They know nothing of the sort on Tuesday. Had this been Friday, you might have an argument.

Roethlisberger sheds boot, ahead of schedule

ESPN's Adam Schefter reports Ben Roethlisberger has shed his walking boot and is "progressing ahead of schedule."

Schefter said he is still unlikely to play, but cautioned, "It's Roethlisberger." Ben refused to rule himself out earlier in the week, but the Steelers have been preparing as if Landry Jones will start. Even though Roethlisberger remains doubtful for this week, his quick progression puts him firmly on track to play following the bye.

Here's a fitting headline: "Door 'slightly ajar' for Ben to torch the Browns again"

This must have been a poker door. Someone saw Ben wearing some Oakleys earlier to fake the Stains out. Don't you guys know anything? :stirthepot:

Yes Bum was a really cool dude. Some of the things he used to say, OMG he was so funny! He used to crack my dad up. He'd laugh at him.

my favorite Bum Phillips quote:

on RB Earl Campbell's inability to finish a 1-mile run -

"When it's 1st and a mile, I won't give it to him."

Bum Phillips was amazing. Too bad the constant media attention has forced coaches to stop being "colorful".

At least we still have a couple members of the Ryan family.
