It was touch and go Sunday at Heinz Field but thanks to their 38-35 win (http://www.steelersdepot.com/2015/11/steelers-win-slugfest-with-raiders-38-35/) over the Oakland Raiders, the Pittsburgh Steelers now find themselves back in the No. 6 spot in the AFC at the conclusion of Week 9.
The Steelers win over the Raiders on Sunday was huge on many levels and that includes them now owning the head-to-head tiebreaker over Oakland should it come down to that later in the season. Next up for the Raiders are the 6-2 Minnesota Vikings and that figures to be an entertaining game next Sunday.
The New York Jets are currently the No. 5 seed in the AFC following their Sunday win over the Jacksonville Jaguars and they will next host the No 7 seed Buffalo Bills, who also won on Sunday, on Thursday night. The good news is that one of those teams is likely to lose that game.
In other key Week 10 action, the Kansas City Chiefs will go on the road to play the Denver Broncos, who suffered their first loss of the season on the road Sunday to the Indianapolis Colts. The Chiefs were off this week.
The Steelers will host the Cleveland Browns in Week 10 and they’ll have to win that game without starting quarterback Ben Roethlisberger, who suffered a left foot sprain on Sunday (http://www.steelersdepot.com/2015/11/report-ben-roethlisberger-expected-to-be-sidelined-a-few-weeks-with-foot-sprain/). Landry Joneswill likely make his second career start against the Browns with Roethlisberger sidelined. If the Steelers can come away with a win against the Browns, they’ll then have their bye week before traveling in Week 11 to play the Seattle Seahawks.

That's nice and all, but unfortunately it really doesn't matter much as of now. That can change very quickly. We need to find a way to beat Cleveland without Ben next week which win't be easy. Then go into the Bye week, get Ben back and hope to go on a serious win streak.

It won't be easy. Provided we beat Cleveland, that would leave us at 6-4, with 6 games left. 10 wins should be enough to secure a playoff spot, but we'll have 3 road games vs division foes, and a trip to Seattle, with home games vs Indy, and Denver. We will have to play very well to get those 10 wins.

Another AFC must win game, a BYE week and then another "Ben returns loss" in Seattle?

Seattle? Better remember to pay the refs.

Well after Denver showed their offensive performance against the Packers was indeed a fluke, and their def laid an egg, they are no longer an automatic loss anymore. Their OL is terrible and our rush should have a field day against them. Their Def is still great, but our Off can be great as well, will be a good game. Seattle also isnt exactly killing it, if we put on an offensive performance like Oakland or SF then again, it is anyone's game. They are certainly going to have to up their game, but if Ben is healthy after the bye are will still be in good shape for the playoffs. But, please, NO MORE INJURIES!

Tough road ahead if we're to get to a 10 win season... With 7 games remaining. We will need to go 5-2. No can lose! :wink02:

The Win over the Raiders yesterday was big. The Steelers needed to win an AFC game, and this upcoming week need to win this one too. They're currently 2-4.

The Steelers pretty much have to sweep their AFC games from here on out.

The 5th seed in the AFC playoffs a very attractive position for the Steelers

The Pittsburgh Steelers currently sit in the 6th playoff spot in the AFC Playoff picture, but with the Bengals in charge of the division, the 5th spot in the playoffs would be ideal for the black and gold.

Sure, when the 2015 season started the Pittsburgh Steelers had aspirations of winning back-to-back division titles. Winning the division is on every NFL team's checklist before the new season begins, but for every team but 8, it simply isn't in the cards.

With the Cincinnati Bengals entering Week 10 with an 8-0 record, and the second place Steelers 5-4, it certainly makes the division seem out of reach. Granted, there are those who will read the previous sentence and say, "There is still half a season to play..." and this is true; however, the Bengals have the easiest schedule remaining in the NFL, and show no signs of fading anytime soon.

For the Steelers, and their fans, it might be time to adjust the lens a bit and start focusing on a new goal, and that being to claim the 5th seed in the AFC Playoffs. As Pittsburgh prepares for the Cleveland Browns in Week 10, they are in sole possession of the 6th seed in the AFC Playoff Picture. The New York Jets hold the keys to the 5th seed heading into this weekend's NFL action.

In golf there is a saying for a player who gets off to a slow start, with the hope of turning it around with the holes still remaining on the scorecard. "There is a lot of paper left." And for the Steelers, there is a lot of paper left, but the reasons for wanting the 5th seed in the postseason certainly are valid when looking at the complete scenario.

With the Denver Broncos record standing at 7-1, behind the Bengals and New England Patriots in the AFC standings, it would seemingly be a toss up between those three teams as to who claims the third seed in the 2015 AFC postseason. The reason such a statement can be said with such certainty is the current state of the AFC South.

The AFC South is the worst division in the AFC, and possibly in the NFL as well. The Indianapolis Colts are leading the division at 4-5, and just got the news they will be without Andrew Luck for 2-6 weeks with a lacerated internal organ and an abdominal tear. The Houston Texans, quarterbacked by Brian Hoyer, are in second place at 3-5, and the Tennessee Titans and Jacksonville Jaguars are still alive at 2-6. Yes, a 2-6 team is still considered "in the hunt" when it comes to the division race.

Either way you slice it, the AFC South will be represented by one team, and they will be granted the 4th seed and a home game in the Wild Card round. For the Steelers, would you rather travel to play the Colts, Texans, Jaguars or Titans, or get on a plane to Cincinnati, New England or Denver? Easy decision...you'll take whatever the AFC South has to offer in the postseason.

For this to happen the Steelers need to claim that 5th seed, and not the 6th seed which they currently possess...

Exactly.

The 5th gets to play the hapless "winner" of the AFC South.

The 6th seed has to play one of the top three teams.

Well, now that Denver's offense seems as it is going to struggle for the rest of this season, I am really not too worried about them, and I think we can beat Cincy as well. If our offense is clicking and our Def doesnt have an off day, we could take it to the end against the Patriots as well. So I am honestly not too worried about which seed we get, as long as we get in the playoffs. And who knows, what if any of the top 3 teams lose their starting QB for 4-5 games through the home stretch . . . the only team capable of coming through that would be Denver since their offense it terrible already.

Who do we root for tonight?
If Buffalo wins, the wild card race becomes extremely crowded.
If NY wins, they'll separate themselves from the pack a bit, while knocking Buffalo further down.

With our conference record being poor, who do we pull for tonight??

I'm happy with Buffalo winning. It keeps things even for now. Buffalo seems like a team that will collapse down the stretch anyway.

Cool with me. Seems to me we owe both the Broncos and Patriots* some payback anyway. And if we do somehow weather the injuries and still win it all, I also don't want to hear any BS about "ducking" somebody else.

Bills move ahead of Jets in race for No. 5 seed in the AFC

In this year’s AFC wild card race, the difference between the No. 5 seed and the No. 6 seed is huge. Which makes the Bills’ win over the Jets last night huge.

The 5-4 Bills are now the No. 5 seed in the AFC, thanks to last night’s head-to-head win over the 5-4 Jets, who are No. 6 thanks to their better conference games record than the 5-4 Steelers.

In the AFC this year, the No. 5 seed will get to play the winner of the AFC South, which could be a 7-9 or even 6-10 team, and will likely be one of the worst division winners in NFL history. The No. 6 seed will have to play the No. 3 seed, which will be the Patriots, Bengals or Broncos. If you’re an AFC wild card team, you’ve got a much better chance of advancing past the first round of the playoffs as the 5 seed than the 6 seed.

The Jets and Bills play again, in Buffalo, in Week 17. The 5 seed may be on the line.

I understand your point... "Derp, derp, you didn't play us in ah-eight."

But, playing a 6-10 AFC South team would be a gimme... and, getting to the next round is the kickstart that this team needs.
