Steelers CB thinks team can go undefeated over final eight games

Antwon Blake and the Steelers' defense have been a pleasant surprise this season.

After a 4-2 start, the Steelers have dropped their last two games, including Ben Roethlisberger's return to the field last week against the Bengals. Despite the .500 record, Pittsburgh remains in good shape because among the AFC teams vying for a wild-card spot, only the Jets and Raiders have better records (both are 4-3).

So it stands to reason that 10 wins should be enough to qualify for the playoffs, except Steelers cornerback Antwon Blake has set his sights slightly higher than that.

"I can't see why we can't go undefeated the rest of the way out," according to ESPN.com. Blake made his remarks days after the Steelers lost Le'Veon Bell, the league's most dynamic running back, for the season.

There's also this: The Steelers are just 1-5 in Roethlisberger's second game back from injury (the team is 2-5 in his first game back, including Sunday's loss to the Bengals). It gets worse:

Scary shades of "We're gonna unleash hell in December."

I agree! I think they can if they can get their key guys back, stay healthy and not start Blake. I appreciate Blake's 2 picks, but those were not coverage picks. His pick vs San Diego was due to Malcolm Floyd not finishing his route. His pick vs Cinci was a terrible pass by Dalton.

Dalton should have never threw that ball in that area. That ball just hung there and Blake just simply rotated over to snag it. He still got beat deep again. He still gives up a high volume of catches for his lack of coverage and ball awareness, and he led the team in tackling for the second time this season, which means he is highly targeted.

Like I said, I appreciate his contribution to the team by making a play, but I feel the same about Blake as I did Landry Jones for making plays in his less than 2 quarters vs Arizona when everyone was praising him. I appreciated Jones's contribution, but I still didn't want him under center if Ben went down, and he showed why in Kansas City.

I like the positive thought but unless they start playing as a team and start playing better on offense, they'll be lucky to go .500.

Coming from a guy who hasn't figured out how to tackle.

His tackling was better last week so maybe he's figured it out?

If they were healthy then I would say yes, but they have been hammered by injuries

The team would need to play four quarters every game. The Steelers already played their Super Bowl this season when they beat the Cardinals.

* I really like the way Antwon Blake comes up and hits, but I'm still amazed at how much ground he loses to wide receivers making sharp cuts. If Amari Cooper wasn't playing at 10 in the morning, he might've had an A.B. kind of day himself.

Wexell is an idiot. Blake is still missing badly and refusing to wrap up ball carriers. He had 4 missed tackles on Sunday. They are really bad misses. It's almost like he has absolutely no idea how to tackle.
