Sunday's game with the Bengals will certainly be worthy of a "Double Yoi!"

At the height of the Steelers' power, the late former Steelers' broadcaster Myron Cope created a symbol that would literally become an essential fabric of Steelers' game from that point on. Now, four decades later, Cope's creation is celebrating a special anniversary.

This season marks the 40th anniversary of the Terrible Towel, a Cope creation during the team's second Super Bowl run during the 1975 season. During Sunday's home game against the Bengals, the Steelers will celebrate the Terrible Towel's 40th birthday and the man who helped make it a Pittsburgh institution.

On Sunday, a commemorative Terrible Towel that fans voted on will be unveiled for the first time. The team will also pay tribute to Cope, whose 35 years with the Steelers is the longest tenure for any broadcaster with an NFL team. Cope's children will also be on hand to take part in the celebration.

A portion of Terrible Towel sales goes to the Allegheny Valley School in Pittsburgh, which provides quality programs and facilities to help individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

Prior to the Steelers playoff duel with visiting Baltimore in 1975, Cope's bosses at WTAE-AM radio wanted him to come up with a "gimmick" that fans could rally around during the game. On the radio before the game, Cope asked his listeners to bring yellow dish towels to the game and to wave it throughout the contest. The fans listened, the Steelers won, and The Terrible Towel was born.
