Todd Haley will become a smarter offensive coordinator next Sunday when the Steelers play the Cincinnati Bengals at Heinz Field. That’s when Ben Roethlisberger is expected to play for the first time since his left knee injury Sept. 27 in St. Louis. Isn’t it amazing how that works? How a great quarterback can make everyone around him better?
But if the start of this NFL season has shown us anything, it’s that Haley is pretty smart even without Roethlisberger. He called a game for left-handed, pocket-moving quarterback Mike Vick that was good enough for Vick to bring the Steelers back twice in the fourth quarter in an unlikely 24-20 win at San Diego. He then called a game for right-handed, pocket-passer Landry Jones — playing in his first NFL game — that was good enough to beat the Arizona Cardinals at Heinz Field. Haley’s remarkable work is a big reason the Steelers are 4-2 going into their game today at Kansas City...........
