He was a legendary quarterback in New Mexico: If you know New Mexico sports, you'll understand the country's sixth-ranked quarterback doesn't often come from the Land of Enchantment. But that was Jones in 2008, all 224 pounds of him. Jones was the sixth-ranked pro-style passer in the country out of Artesia High School and the state's best prospect since 10-year NFL veteran defensive lineman Alan Branch in 2004. As a senior at Artesia, Jones threw for 3,433 yards and 45 scores.

He married an All-Big-12 shooting guard: Jones might not have the brightest athletic star in his own family. His wife, Whitney Hand, is a former standout with Oklahoma women's hoops, averaging nearly 12 points per game for her career while converting 83 percent of her free throws and 34.7 percent from 3-point range. The couple has been married since 2012. One of Hand's former teammates is Carlee Roethlisberger, the sister of Steelers starter Ben Roethlisberger.

He's a devout Christian: One of the first things Jones did at his postgame news conference was "give God the glory because without him, I don' know where I would be at right now and pushing through those couple of years I didn't get to play." Jones is one of many athletes to appear in a faith-based webisode called 'I Am Second.'

He has struggled to find an NFL identity: Two years of not playing, coupled with uneven offseason workouts, applied pressure on Jones to improve. Jones admitted in July: “I have to figure out what style of quarterback I’m going to be." He decided he wanted to be a good decision-maker who made plays when available. He hasn't always done that in practices, though sometimes he did. He definitely did Sunday.

He has a dry sense of humor: Jones seems generally well-liked by teammates and takes a laid-back approach to life in the NFL fish bowl. After conducting an interview in anticipation of Mike Vick's first start with the Steelers, making Jones the primary backup, Jones pumped his fist and said, 'Crushed it.'

New Mexico...

Hey, Mr. Tomlin... you want me to, you know, throw the football and shit. I'll be like a king... or, like, you know, a blowfish. When I get a touchdown, I'll be like: Gatorade me, bitch.

I'm still waiting to see that stash of coaches' animal porn that he had in order to stay on the roster the past three years until now. Because that was just as impressive a feat as what happened last weekend.
