The official who failed to correct a clock mistake late in Monday night’s Steelers-Chargers game has been disciplined by the league.

Side judge Rob Vernatchi has been suspended for one week with pay, a source with knowledge of the situation tells PFT.

The NFL has not yet responded to PFT’s request for comment, and the NFL Referees Association could not be reached. Vernatchi is expected to file a grievance.

The NFL released a statement (http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2015/10/13/nfl-admits-side-judge-should-have-caught-clock-mistake/) on Tuesday, acknowledging a clock error had taken place on Monday...........

File a grievance? Why? A weeks vacation with pay. He deserved at least two weeks with no pay. Morelli should have been given a week too while we're at it.

Smoke weed, 4 games.

Screw up actual game calls, could very well cause teams to win/lose, suspended 1 week, WITH PAY!!! Now I'm sure the suspension affects his employment somehow, I would hope.

Does anyone take the Shield seriously?

Most of these officials are corporate CEOs/bank presidents and the like by trade and they officiate NFL games for shits and grins more than anything else.

Seems to me this sort of thing used to get officials fired from the NFL.

3 games with an extra game check that not even the most avid Go to Hell defender on this site could not explain.

Spygate gets you no suspensions what so ever.

This is complete and utter Bull Shit and the fact that he is appealing is a complete Joke.

Once again proving that if it's something serious that happens to the Steelers it's not going to be taken seriously.

I heard on a radio report that most of the clock operators are current ncaa officials...

Suspended with pay?

hahaha

what? you want him to lose his job? 30 lashes then put him in the stockade?

dock his pay, taking food out of his children's mouths

over a clock issue?

It was probably the woman refs fault - but he had to take the fall

Time keeper was a local fan and/or had $ on the game. Ref should have been watching. Good call to suspend with pay. Puts everybody on notice.

Have they suspended refs before? So a mistake that didn't affect a game gets a suspension, but one that does affect a game goes unpunished?

Good question. 2013 the ref was suspended for using profanity at the ForeSkins player.

http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap2000000285921/article/roy-ellison-suspended-one-game-for-use-of-profanity

Then, I found this tidbit.

According to the NFL's senior vice president of communications, Greg Aiello, the last time an official was suspended due to an on-field incident was back in 1984, when Jack Fette got into hot water for conduct toward fans

Actually I read they just did suspend the ref who effed up the Lions -Seahawks game. I think the announcement might have come yesterday. I guess it took two inept actions for the league to finally act, and once they acted on one their hand was forced and they acted on both.

Sorry can't link it at the moment. Don't have a mouse with me and am using my notebook.

If they keep up the suspensions they will need to hire more refs because they won't have enough for all of the games.

And Kraft is part owner of one of those. Like I have said numerous times, I would love to be able to audit Kraft. Dirty, dirty, dirty.
