Mike Tomlin said he expects quarterback Mike Vick to be better against the San Diego Chargers because he will have five days of practice before Monday night’s nationally televised game.
Vick only had 1 ˝ practice days last week in making his first start for injured Ben Roethlisberger. Vick did not turn the ball over and threw a touchdown to Darrius Heyward-Bey, but he misfired on a short fourth-down pass to Antonio Brown that allowed the Baltimore Ravens to kick the winning field goal in overtime.
“He’s only going to get better [with a full week],” Tomlin said.
Tomlin said he never considered giving kicker Josh Scobee another week to atone for his two misses in the final 2 ˝ minutes of the loss to the Ravens on Thursday night. Scobee was released one day later and the Steelers signed former Rice kicker Chris Boswell, who has never kicked in an NFL game.
