Seahawks safety Kam Chancellor made one of the plays of the year Monday night by forcing a fumble on the goal line, saving Seattle from potentially falling to 1-3. But should the Seahawks have been called for a penalty on the play?

According to NFL vice president of officiating Dean Blandino, the answer is yes.

Battong should be allowed. Teams should also be allowed to maintain whatever air pressure they want in the ball, especially kickers. There should also be a separate set of rules for some of the teams and the more popular teams should be allowed more latitude to increase ratings and revenue for the NFL.

Surprised the NFL admitted a mistake so quickly. But it is the Lions.

The officiating this weekend was horrible and seems that some favorite teams got preferential treatment. I did not watch the whole game but in the G.B. vs S.F. game B.J. Ragi jumped offsides yet the Niners got penalized. I am not saying it was a game changer and I will never blame officiating for a loss, but it was a horrible weekend for the officials IMHO.

Most of the NFL officials in general are pretty bad

Seawhiner fans be like: "That wasn't a penalty, this game was totally fair". Same fans who think they were robbed in Super Bowl 40 but that the Fail Mary call was a good call

Me too

"You can't bat the ball in any direction in the end zone. K.J. Wright batted the football, that is a foul for an illegal bat," NFL vice president of officiating Dean Blandino said on NFL Network following the game.

"The back judge was on the play. In his judgment, he didn't feel it was an overt act, so he didn't throw the flag. In looking at the replays, it did look like a bat. So the enforcement would be, basically we'd go back to the spot of the fumble, and Detroit would keep the football."

Blandino also admitted, "We have to make that call."

Yep this ^ exactly. And this isn't the first time for them getting a call - Green Bay game comes to mind. Yet they'll continue to whine about SB 40. Screw them.

I called it as soon as it happened. It was very obvious that it was intentional. I also knew that the official wasn't going to throw the flag. I just turned the channel.

I just hope our crew learns from this - hold onto the damn ball! - don't go reaching, unless you're on my fantasy team, then go for the TD's baby!

My FF team won because of that play - a play that cost my rival points, so maybe I'm being a little selfish, I LOVED IT! woo-hoo

If it would have happened against the Raiders, it would be a perfectly legal play that was buried in obscurity in the rule book. I wonder how many more rules there are that have never been used against anyone waiting to come out when the Silver & Black are on the field.:scratchchin:... :noidea: Not that I'm skeptical at all. :chuckle:
