The Pittsburgh Steelers (http://www.nfl.com/teams/pittsburghsteelers/profile?team=PIT) have given center Justin Hartwig (http://www.nfl.com/players/justinhartwig/profile?id=HAR756037) permission to contact other teams and explore trade options, a league source said Friday.

The emergence of first-round draft pick Maurkice Pouncey (http://www.nfl.com/players/maurkicepouncey/profile?id=POU550260) has made Hartwig expendable. Originally the thought was Pouncey would begin at guard, but he already knows the calls and verbage to handle center, according to a team source.
"Those are the things you think about when you're starting and, all of sudden, you got another guy playing in front of you," Hartwig said after practice last Thursday. "Obviously, you think about your future. That's the nature of this business."..............

Giving a player permission typically is an admission that the market is very week. Better chance he just gets released.

I don't look for Hartwig to be a Steeler tomorrow afternoon. Though I have never been impressed with him, I do appreciate his contributions to the team and wish him well.

seems like a nice guy to have abeer with and hang out with, but i just have flash backs of the superbowl and he is getting blown up in the EZ and on top of it a penalty that killed a great throw and catch. i guess i have been holding a grudge against him for that. The way he acted the other night pouting and throwing a fit, then getting his chance to shine a bit , but gets man handled by guys that will be selling insuarance tomorrow evening just doesnt set well with me. i hope he finds a job elsewhere and i thank him for his service, but i will nto lose any sleep over him not being in B&G.

I agree. Can we say PANCAKE? I still say that was not holding, it was more like he was defending himself. I can laugh at it now!

I would like to think we can get something for him hopefully a draft pick next year.

Thanks for the memories and contributions.

I guess Pouncey's statement that he would start is money in the bank. That says alot about this year's first round pick.

Sorry to say, but Pouncey just has shown us so much and his potential is endless. Good luck elsewhere.
