The only thing secondary about the Steelers' blitz Thursday was the reliance on the secondary to execute it.

Defensive coordinator Keith Butler utilized pass rushers from all angles. Every starter was asked to rush the passer, but trends stood out:
The cornerback blitz. The safety blitz. Even, the combined cornerback/safety blitz.

The Steelers blitzed a member of their secondary 23 times — about one-third of the snaps — during regulation in a 23-20 overtime loss to the Baltimore Ravens. That's a third of the Ravens' snaps over the first four quarters..........

I think they are something like 34-35% blitzing compared to 28% under LeBeau in 2014. I feel like most of that blitzing has come most recently.

I was looking for Deshea Townsend to get to the QB.

Yeah, but the real difference in the blitzing now is there is actually some variety to it and it's effective because they're mixing things up a bit.

Good point. I think Willie WIlliams might get credit for a sack at some point this season...oh wait...I see ALLD beat me to that joke already!

It seemed like Lebeau blitzed someone in the secondary once every couple of game over the last few seasons.

Yep. It decreased as they all got old. I remember them having to blitz and looking gassed against that HOFer Curtis Painter and the Colts in 2011. They barely won that game.
