View Full Version : Overtime loss tough to swallow for Steelers

Fifteen minutes after Justin Tucker kicked the winning 52-yard field goal to send the Steelers to an overtime loss Thursday night at Heinz Field, special teams captain Robert Golden and starting safety Mike Mitchell remained in full uniform. Only their helmets hung next to their lockers. Their shoulder pads, pants and cleats remained on.


They sat there motionless, arms resting on their legs. They focused on no one, gazing off into space.


As reporters entered looking for words to capture the improbable 23-20 loss, Golden and Mitchell’s blank stares said it all.


Disbelief is the best word to describe the feeling among players inside that locker room Thursday night. Stunned might be a close second.


There was an eerie quiet in that room, one usually reserved for a playoff loss. Team president Art Rooney II shook hands with the players at their locker stalls. They offered their hands in return but no words...............
